The leads Lim Kang-Sung and Park Sun-Young of the musical ‘Sisyphus’ will meet listeners on TBS ‘Ham Choon-Ho Folk Song’.
As Orchard Musical Company’s ‘Sisyphus’ is set to open on December 16 at Yes24 Stage, Lim Kang-Sung and Park Sun-Young will appear on TBS ‘Ham Choon-Ho Folk Song’, which airs beginning at 10 a.m. on the 3rd. On the broadcast, they will share how it feels to return to the stage of ‘Sisyphus’ and offer various episode talks, meeting in advance the audiences who are awaiting the run.
Lim Kang-Sung will give a passionate performance as the Clown, ‘the one who sublimates sorrow’. In particular, Lim is said to sing the number ‘Best Friend’, which captures old man Salamano’s affection for his dog as one of the multi-player roles in the show, drawing even more attention.
Park Sun-Young, who is drawing notice for explosive energy and vocals, takes the stage as the Poet, ‘the one who sings poetry’. Attention is on the behind-the-scenes talk about the work that Lim and Park, who have been with it since its 2024 premiere, will share.
The musical ‘Sisyphus’ is an original piece that musically weaves together Meursault from Albert Camus’s novel ‘The Stranger’ and the ‘Myth of Sisyphus’ from Greek mythology. Set in a ruined world where hope has vanished, the work presents, through the stories of four actors, a profound message to love this moment fervently despite the recurring hardships of life, delivering a deep resonance to audiences. In addition, ‘Sisyphus’ intuitively depicts key events from Camus’s original, such as Meursault experiencing his mother’s death and the intense yearning for life felt at the very edge of existence, while easing the philosophical weight and adding the musical’s signature wit to complete its unique character.
‘Sisyphus’ is a collaboration between writer-director Chu Jung-Hwa, who has delivered weighty messages through works such as ‘Ludwig’, ‘Frida’, ‘Interview’, ‘Smoke’, and ‘Blue Rain’, and composer Heo Su-Hyun, whose beautiful melodies enhance the quality of the work. It was selected last July for the ‘Creative Support Program’ of the ‘18th Daegu International Musical Festival’ (DIMF, hereafter DIMF) and was presented to audiences for the first time. At the time, the piece earned praise thanks to its solid story, dramatic music, and deeply immersive performances by the actors, and later achieved the feat of a triple crown at the ensuing awards, winning the Best Supporting Actress Award, the Aseong Creator Award, and the Original Musical Award.
Having proven its high level of completion, ‘Sisyphus’ premiered last December to an enthusiastic response, and was selected as an official invited work of the 19th DIMF, where it was performed at Ayang Hall of Daegu Ayang Arts Center from July 4 to 6. It was also selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘2025 Performing Arts Regional Distribution Support’ public program and was staged at Haman Culture and Arts Center on July 12.
‘Sisyphus’ opens on December 16 at Yes24 Stage 2 in Seoul.
