Subscriber churn for travel YouTuber Wonji (Lee Won-ji), embroiled in controversy over a poor office environment, is alarming.
On the 3rd, subscribers to the YouTube channel ‘A Day of Wonji’ fell to about 994,000. The subscriber count, which had once reached 1.02 million, dropped by nearly 30,000 after the controversy.
Earlier, on the 20th, Wonji faced criticism after showing three employees working in a 6 pyeong office on the second basement level with no windows.
One netizen pointed out, “I understand that Wonji began YouTube due to stress at a company, but upon becoming a boss, ends up the same in the end.” Wonji had previously stated, “I resigned and started YouTube because working in a chicken coop-like office was hard.” Moreover, as it became known that Wonji values ventilation and graduated from the Department of Architecture at Dong-A University, the controversy grew further.
As the controversy continued, Wonji posted apologies twice and said the poor office would be relocated as soon as possible. Currently, A Day of Wonji has not uploaded videos since deleting the office video.
Meanwhile, by running the YouTube channel, Wonji gained major popularity as a travel creator and later became widely known through the ENA entertainment program series ‘Earth Marble World Travel’.
