MBC Friday-Saturday drama <The Moon Flows Over Igang>

Kim Sejeong has regained the memories she had lost.

In episode 10 of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Moon Flows Over Igang’ (written by Cho Seung-hee/ directed by Lee Dong-hyun/ planned by Kwon Sung-chang/ produced by HighZium Studio), which aired on the 6th (Sat), the truth of the long-shrouded Gyesa Year incident gradually came to light, and Park Dali (played by Kim Sejeong) recovered the memories of Crown Princess Kang Yeon-wol (also played by Kim Sejeong), delivering gripping excitement. As a result, episode 10 recorded a nationwide rating of 5.3%, and the confrontation at the ferry dock between Lee Kang (Kang Tae-oh) and Kim Han-cheol (Jin Goo) soared to a peak of 5.9% (according to Nielsen Korea).

After Lee Kang uncovered the link between Jimjo and Left State Councillor Kim Han-cheol, Kim Han-cheol was summarily arrested for treason and imprisoned. Upon hearing that Kim Han-cheol had been detained, Lee Un (Lee Shin-young) and Kim Woo-hee (Hong Soo-joo) slipped out of the palace away from prying eyes, and it seemed that both Lee Kang and Park Dali, and Lee Un and Kim Woo-hee alike, were about to regain their peace.

However, for reasons unknown, King Lee Hee (Kim Nam-hee) appeared at the prison where Kim Han-cheol was confined, and soon Kim Han-cheol was released, shocking everyone. Kim Han-cheol ordered that the escaped Kim Woo-hee be quietly brought in, then appeared before Crown Prince Lee Kang as well, leaving Lee Kang flustered.

Lee Kang asked King Lee Hee why he had released Kim Han-cheol, and Lee Hee confessed to his son the events of the Gyesa year that he had kept buried in his heart. After murdering the late king and the crown prince, Kim Han-cheol coerced Lee Hee into joining a baseless coup to place him on the throne, then used it as leverage to manipulate the king at will. Although it was written under Kim Han-cheol’s threats, if the contents of the secret pact explicitly stating it was a coup were to be revealed, it was obvious that Lee Hee would be deposed as a monarch installed by a coup; thus, to protect his son from Kim Han-cheol, who held his weakness, Lee Hee ended up following his will.

Confronted with a father’s desire to protect his son, with a mother and a wife sacrificed because of it, and with the immovable wall that is Kim Han-cheol no matter how hard he tried, Lee Kang was overwhelmed by despair and guilt and burst into tears. In particular, the desperate cry of his younger brother Lee Un, who, seized by Kim Han-cheol, had no choice but to let the woman he loves go before his very eyes, weighed even more heavily on Lee Kang’s heart.

Park Dali soothed Lee Kang and strengthened him by staying by his side. Buoyed by the support of Park Dali, who promised to be his strength, Lee Kang resolved never again to lose someone precious to Kim Han-cheol, and went to King Lee Hee to ask that they set everything right. However, unwilling to see his son Lee Kang fall into ruin, Lee Hee was forced into yet another cowardly choice.

Accordingly, Lee Hee made Crown Princess Kang Yeon-wol into Bubosang Park Dali and met Park Hong-nan (Park Ah-in), who had been hidden, to plan spiriting Park Dali away elsewhere. The idea was to disguise Park Dali as dead and then have Park Hong-nan take her to Qing.

Unaware of this, Park Dali, delighted by a promise from Lee Hee to arrange a residence for her family, headed to Unjeonggung, where Lee Kang had once stayed with Kang Yeon-wol. Every corner of Unjeonggung was steeped in the happy memories of Lee Kang and Kang Yeon-wol from the past. As she wandered through the palace, Park Dali began to feel confused by the memories of Kang Yeon-wol that had appeared in her dreams and the recollections resurfacing one after another.

At last recovering all her memories, Park Dali burst into tears and, turning to Park Hong-nan, who had lied to her all this time, revealed her complicated feelings by saying, “Hong-nan, why did you deceive me?” With Park Dali returning from Bubosang to Crown Princess, curiosity is mounting over what choice she will make next.

Kim Sejeong, who has reclaimed her lost memories in the very midst of fate’s vortex, will continue her journey in episode 11 of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Moon Flows Over Igang,” airing at 9:40 p.m. on the 12th (Fri).
