Netflix series ‘The Price of Confession’

Actor Kim Seon-mi shone as a ‘scene-stealer’ in ‘The Price of Confession’.

Released on the 5th, the Netflix series ‘The Price of Confession’ is a mystery thriller that portrays what unfolds between ‘Yoon-su’ (played by Jeon Do-yeon), who is driven into being a suspect in her husband’s murder, and the enigmatic figure ‘Mo-eun’ (played by Kim Go-eun), who is called a witch, two people laden with secrets.

Kim Seon-mi delivered grounded, lifelike acting as the inmate ‘Ms. Kim’, who shares a room with Mo-eun. When the newly admitted Mo-eun entered the room at the detention center, the inmates showed both curiosity and wariness about her. When fellow inmates said that an initiation should come before eating, Ms. Kim quipped, “Even Mount Geumgang comes after a meal,” easing the tense mood and bringing smiles to viewers.

But only for a moment: upon hearing that, contrary to Mo-eun’s youthful look, the charge against her is murder, Ms. Kim appeared greatly flustered. She was also more startled than anyone whenever the seemingly delicate Mo-eun suddenly revealed hidden strength.

In this way, through her signature realistic performance, Kim Seon-mi rendered the character of Ms. Kim as someone who could plausibly exist. She attended to details down to subtle shifts in expression and turns of phrase, leaving a strong impression on viewers. Showing a warm, personable side as she got along amicably with most inmates, she also breathed fresh energy into the drama.

Crossing genres with every project, Kim Seon-mi has showcased solid acting in the drama ‘Demure Sales’, the films ‘Three Sisters’, ‘Grotesque Mansion’, ‘Kim Ji-young, Born 1982’, and the plays ‘The Horror Begins’, ‘Another Summer’, and ‘Moral Family’. Having once again cemented her presence through ‘The Price of Confession’, expectations are high for her next acting steps.
