Actor and director Ha Jung-woo revealed that during the production of the film ‘Upstairs Neighbors’, he came under such extreme stress that his appendix ruptured and he underwent surgery.

On the 8th, the YouTube channel ‘Jjanhanhyeong Shin Dong-yeop’ featured the film ‘Upstairs Neighbors’ director Ha Jung-woo, along with Lee Ha-nui, Gong Hyo-jin, and Kim Dong-uk as guests. In the video, Ha Jung-woo opened up about memories of feeling upset with Gong Hyo-jin.

Ha Jung-woo said, “She is extremely demanding about scripts. Once, when I was on the phone with Gong Hyo-jin, we talked for an hour and 20 minutes. I thought, ‘I wish she would stop already.’” In response, Gong Hyo-jin protested, “Even a week before shooting, the script had not been developed…”

Ha Jung-woo explained, “In a way, she was a good producer in a positive sense. People around me could not easily say things to me, and Hyo-jin took on that role a great deal. For me, that was extremely stressful.” He continued, “At every turn, she talked about everything from 1 to 1000, saying something was strange. She even poked at things where there was nothing to say. Whether it was that preparation was lacking, she pointed all of it out without exception.”

He then added jokingly, “After finishing this film, my appendix burst and I had surgery. Eighty percent of it was because of Gong Hyo-jin.”

Meanwhile, ‘Upstairs Neighbors’ depicts what happens when Jeong-a (Gong Hyo-jin) and Hyeon-su (Kim Dong-uk), whose once fiery married life has faded and only a colorless routine remains, encounter the upstairs couple Mr. Kim (Ha Jung-woo) and Su-gyeong (Lee Ha-nui), who make excessively lively noises every night.
