“A contestant who beat me on another competition show has even appeared! I’m really looking forward to this lineup”
Singer Lyn, who will be active as a master on ‘The King of Active Singers 3’, sat down for a direct five-question, five-answer interview ahead of ‘The King of Active Singers 3’, which is teasing a record-breaking lineup.
Premiering on the 23rd, MBN’s ‘The King of Active Singers 3’ is a national-team selection survival music variety show in which, rather than the Trot TOP7, top-tier active singers from across Korea’s genres gather for a fierce fight toward the Taegeuk emblem. Seasons 1 and 2 previously recorded peak ratings of 18.4% and 15.1%, respectively, and for 12 consecutive weeks maintained the No. 1 spot among all Tuesday entertainment programs across terrestrial, general programming, and cablethis is the third season of the blockbuster national favorite ‘The King of Active Singers’.
After boldly throwing down the gauntlet in Season 1 of ‘The King of Active Singers’, Lyn not only cemented her reputation as the “OST queen” but also earned the title of “trot true-heart,” delivering a sensational shock nationwide. Inspired by Lyn’s challenge, top-tier artists from each genreincluding Cha Ji-yeon, Stephanie, and Bae Da-haeare joining ‘The King of Active Singers 3’ en masse, heralding genre-defying, high-quality stages rarely seen in other competitions.

- Before and after appearing on ‘The King of Active Singers’, what do you think is the biggest change you’ve personally felt and what you’ve gained?
Through ‘The King of Active Singers’, breaking down the boundaries of genre and taking one more step musically has been my own change. While encountering diverse music within trot, the base of people who love my songs and my voice also broadened. As the range of genres I can sing and the stages I can stand on has expanded, the happiest harvest is that I’ve gained fans across a wider range of ages.
- How do you feel about stepping in as a master on ‘The King of Active Singers 3’? In particular, last season you drew attention with empathetic remarks that brought tearsdid anyone in ‘The King of Active Singers 3’ also make Lyn tear up?
Because I know firsthand how nerve-racking and psychologically burdensome the ‘The King of Active Singers’ stage is, I feel a strong desireas someone who participated in the first season and as a seniorto offer warm encouragement and support. As when I met Hwanhee, who appeared on ‘The King of Active Singers 2’, I think I got a little choked up watching the stages of friends coming from other genres. It’s probably because, like all the contestants, they made their decision with exceptional care and urgency, and I deeply empathize with that.
- This ‘The King of Active Singers 3’ places no limits on genre. As someone from another genre, how do you feel about Season 3 not imposing genre restrictions?
I love it. I’m truly excited about being able to hear broad-ranging music in diverse voices. In particular, this Season 3 even features a contestant who beat me on another competition program. Looking at the lineup this time, I’m really looking forward to it.
- We hear many contestants decided to try ‘The King of Active Singers 3’ after watching you on the show. How do you feel seeing contestants who dream of becoming the second Lyn?
I was very happy that people viewed my path of expanding genres and singing joyfully in a positive light. On the other hand, a big word like “responsibility” also came to mind. I want to show better sides of myselfmany of them, and for a long time. I want to tell the contestants to do their best at every moment to build their stages and leave behind good songs. What remains are the stage and the songs, and once it’s over, the tough moments have a way of fading to white.
- You took on your first MC role with ‘Korea-Japan Top Ten Show’ and drew attention for your hidden variety sense. What kind of presence do you expect to show as a master in ‘Season 3’?
When I appeared on ‘The King of Active Singers’, thanks to the warm, affectionate words of Ms. Joo Hyun-mi, I was able to keep going without giving up, and that memory has taken a very deep place in my heart. If I can share that warmth I received back then, I’d be happy. My roles on ‘Korea-Japan Top Ten Show’ and ‘The King of Active Singers’ are quite different, so it’s hard to call it “witty banter,” but I’ll do my best.
