The funeral of actor Kim Ji-mi, whose passing was reported on the 10th, is not expected to be held as a film community funeral.
The Federation of Korean Film Workers announced on the 10th regarding the funeral of the deceased that “cremation has been completed in the United States, and considering that the funeral procedures will conclude on the 12th, a separate film community funeral will not be held”.
News of the death was conveyed on the 10th through director Lee Jang-ho, a close friend. The Federation of Korean Film Workers stated the same day that “Kim Ji-mi passed away in Los Angeles (LA), United States, at 4:30 a.m. Korea time on the 7th”.
The cause of death is reported to be shock due to low blood pressure, with long-standing heart problems. The Federation of Korean Film Workers will not hold a film community funeral but plans to prepare a separate memorial space to honor the deceased.
At the age of 85, Kim Ji-mi was born in 1940 in Daedeok-gun, Chungnam, debuted with the film ‘Twilight Train’ by director Kim Ki-young, and left more than 700 works.
Not only as an actor but also as a producer and administrator, Kim showed a broad role and was inducted into the Filmmakers Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2016, Kim received the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit at the Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards.
