Hwang Hee of ‘The Price of Confession’ stood out as a ‘human heater’.
The OTT Netflix series ‘The Price of Confession’ has taken center stage. ‘The Price of Confession’ is a mystery thriller that depicts what unfolds between Yoon-su, who is driven into being a suspect in her husband’s murder, and Mo-eun, an enigmatic figure known as a witchtwo people with many secrets. As it enters its second week of release, it is steadily holding the top spot in South Korea’s TOP 10 Series while also taking first place in the TV-OTT integrated drama buzz category for the first week of December announced by Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex (FUNdex).
Amid the explosive response continuing day after day, Hwang Hee, who plays medical officer Lee Seon-jae, left a deep impression on viewers around the world. His impassioned performance that breathed warmth into the heart-clenching suspense, as well as the fresh chemistry he created with his co-actors, stood out.
From his very first appearance, Lee Seon-jae (played by Hwang Hee) embodied the archetype of being soft on the outside and strong on the inside. After deftly treating Ahn Yoon-su’s (played by Jeon Do-yeon) wounds, he extended gentle comfort that soothed her weary heart. Despite the firm restraint of correctional officer Eom (played by Kim Kuk-hee), Lee Seon-jae, in his own way, continued to instill in Ahn Yoon-su the will to live. Through this, one could glimpse the strength firmly rooted beneath his gentle exterior.
Moreover, Lee Seon-jae was different in how he treated Mo-eun (played by Kim Go-eun). While all the inmates and even the guards regarded Mo-eun with fear, he looked at her without prejudice. He expressed admiration for Mo-eun’s keen resourcefulness in administering prompt first aid, and his pure manner of treating her without any bias, simply as a patient, cast a brief warmth over the narrative.
Hwang Hee asserted his presence as a ‘human heater’ who made ‘The Price of Confession’ even richer. The solid acting prowess he has built across diverse genres came to full force, imbuing a charmingly humane character with vitality and, further, allowing him to live and breathe as Lee Seon-jae within the story. In addition, the powerful synergy he created with Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun through their intense performances served as an unsung driving force that sent the story’s immersion soaring.
Through ‘The Price of Confession’, Hwang Hee sparked delight. He will continue his busy run with MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Judge Lee Han-young’, which will be unveiled next month. This time, anticipation is rising by the day for the fun Hwang Hee will bring as a righteous, by-the-book prosecutor returning to the small screen.
‘The Price of Confession’, starring Hwang Hee, is currently streaming to great acclaim on Netflix, and MBC’s ‘Judge Lee Han-young’ is scheduled to premiere on January 2, 2026.
