The full story of the poisoned gimbap murder revealed
A broadcast still from Season 2 of ‘Detectives’ Banter’ airing on the 12th
The web variety show ‘Detectives’ Banter’ Season 2 covers the case of death row inmate Kang Young-ri.
The YouTube channel ‘Detectives’ Banter’ will release Episode 19 of ‘Detectives’ Banter’ Season 2 at 7 p.m. on the 12th. Kim Nam-il and Ahn Jung-hwan appear as guests and analyze the case with Detective Kang Yoon-seok.
This episode highlights the 1984 contract murder case involving Kang Young-ri. Then 29, Kang Young-ri was executed for conspiring with taxi driver Seo Ji-woo, then 28, to murder her pharmacist husband.
The two conspired to stage a fake traffic accident. Later, the gimbap Kang handed to her mother-in-law became the decisive clue. The mother-in-law pricked the gimbap with a silver chopstick, confirmed a reaction to poison, and requested a reinvestigation.
After her husband’s death, Kang sought to take possession of assets such as the apartment and the pharmacy deposit. They were not in an affair; they were merely a passenger and a driver.
Ahn Jung-hwan said, “She killed her husband and dreamed of wealth and glory.” Kang is said to have remarked while incarcerated, “Women in the detention center are all smart,” and, “Because people can’t stand us and mistreat us, we can’t help but explode.”
