TV CHOSUN ‘No Next Life’
With only two episodes left until the finale, TV CHOSUN ‘No Next Life’ will present a 3-people, 3-colors ‘polar-opposite destinies chronicle’ as Kim Hee-Sun, Han Hye-Jin, and Jin Seo-Yeon collide with starkly different realities.
The TV CHOSUN Monday-Tuesday miniseries ‘No Next Life’ (directed by Kim Jung-Min/written by Shin I-Won/produced by TME Group, Firstman Studio, Megaphone) has been eliciting deep empathy by capturing the real concerns of people in their forties at a turning point in life, the conflicts and fissures they encounter in relationships and social life, and even the excitement of romance past forty. Episodes 9 and 10 of ‘No Next Life’ recorded minute-by-minute peak ratings of 4.1% and 4.2% according to Nielsen Korea, demonstrating a fearsome upward climb by renewing its own all-time high for four consecutive episodes and proving a final spurt.
In the previous broadcast, Jo Na-Jeong (Kim Hee-Sun) cleared her husband No Won-Bin (Yoon Park) of false accusations and revealed the truth behind a sexual harassment scandal, but instead shocked viewers by being dismissed early. Gu Ju-Young (Han Hye-Jin) learned about the horrific childhood trauma of her ex-husband Oh Sang-Min (Jang In-Seop), and Lee Il-Ri (Jin Seo-Yeon) fell into deep contemplation because of Byeon Sang-Gyu (Heo Jun-Seok), who is unusually fond of children, heightening curiosity about what lies ahead.
Episode 11 of ‘No Next Life’, which will air at 10 p.m. on the 15th (Mon), features ‘3-people, 3-colors life steps’ in which Kim Hee-Sun, Han Hye-Jin, and Jin Seo-Yeon each meet a meaningful moment from different positions. In the story, Jo Na-Jeong, tormented by a reality that does not go her way, bursts into tears. As if the agony and resentment she has long suppressed explode at once, tears drop as she collapses onto the floor and lets out a wail. In contrast, Gu Ju-Young reveals a burning friendship with a smile as she and Lee Il-Ri share a ‘heartfelt embrace’. Next, Lee Il-Ri opens her eyes wide in surprise at what Gu Ju-Young says, stirring curiosity. What reality has come upon the three, and how the fate of the trio who have been friends for twenty years will unfold draws attention.
Meanwhile, while filming the ‘polar-opposite destinies chronicle’ scenes, Kim Hee-Sun, Han Hye-Jin, and Jin Seo-Yeon poured out top-class performances of a different caliber without reserve. Kim Hee-Sun expressed the realistic pain of Jo Na-Jeong, whose complex emotions, held back with all her strength, erupt in an instant, with a sincere, wrenching cry. The production team, hushed by the weighty, explosive crying performance by Kim Hee-Sun that compresses and then detonates the emotions piled up in the heart, showered her with applause and high praise the moment the cut ended. Han Hye-Jin compellingly depicted the quiet yet firm will and resolve of Gu Ju-Young with a faintly smiling expression, heightening immersion. Jin Seo-Yeon added lingering resonance by conveying warm support and comfort for her close friend Gu Ju-Young in a shining gaze, suggesting the depth of a solid friendship.
The production team said, “As ‘No Next Life’ stands two episodes from its conclusion, this is a scene where the diverging fates of Kim Hee-Sun, Han Hye-Jin, and Jin Seo-Yeon, a trio of friends for twenty years, come to light,” adding, “Please look forward to episode 11, where Kim Hee-Sun, Han Hye-Jin, and Jin Seo-Yeon will unleash an impact of acting craft stronger than any single line.”
