The French musical ‘Romeo and Juliet’, a legendary epic of love, will be restaged in Korea.

Premiered in Paris, France, in 2001, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ became a breakout hit that year, selling out for a full year in France and drawing five million spectators across Europe. The songs featured in the show, ‘To Love(Aimer)’ and ‘The Kings of the World(Les Rois du Monde)’, also reached number one on the French music charts in 2001. At the 2007 engagement in Korea, more than one hundred thousand audience members visited the theater for ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

On the 26th, the producer of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ announced the cast lineup. The role of Romeo will be played by Yoo Hwe-Seung of N.FLYING, who has shown outstanding vocals and acting in many works including Wolfgang in the musical ‘Mozart’ and Gabe in ‘Next to Normal’; New of THE BOYZ, who melts fans with intense emotion on stage; and Woobin of CRAVITY, known for a refreshing voice.

Additionally, musical actor Song Eun-Hye, who has starred in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Phantom’, and musical actor Jang Hye-Rin, who has been active in ‘Phantom’, ‘The Man Who Laughs’, and ‘The Rose of Versailles’, will play Juliet.

For Benvolio, musical actor Oh Jong-Hyuk, who has appeared in many musicals including ‘Thrill Me’, ‘The Days’, and ‘Notre-Dame de Paris’ and has been recognized for acting, has been cast, and for Mercutio, Park Min-Sung, a reliable actor with intense charisma and overwhelming vocals, will take the role.

As Lady Capulet, Baek Joo-Yeon, who commands the stage with delicate acting and deep singing, and Shim Eun-Jin, formerly of Baby V.O.X, have been cast; and as Lady Montague, actor Kim Young-Joo, who has explosive projection and a distinctive tone, and Kim A-Seon, from the 2006 Korean premiere of ‘Miss Saigon’, have been cast.

The role of Tybalt is double cast with rock vocalist Kwak Dong-Hyun and actor Kim Soon-Taek, known for solid acting and singing. For the Prince, actor Choi Oh-Sik, who boasts powerful charisma, and Phantom Singer top baritone Park Sang-Don will take the role.

A six-member team of professional dancers and a 24-member ensemble are expected to be reborn with the splendor and grand group choreography characteristic of French musicals.

Direction is by Professor Lee Jong-Seok (Musical Theatre, Seokyeong University), who has directed ‘Spring Awakening’, ‘Cheong Story’, ‘Thrill Me’, ‘Arsene Lupin’ ‘Dilkusha’; music direction is by Lee Na-Young, winner of the 14th Korea Musical Awards Music Award; choreography is by choreographer Jeong So-Yeon, known for distinctive and highly polished composition and interpretive skills.

The Korea run of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ will be staged at the KEPCO Art Center from March 20 to May 31, 2026.
