Chef Ahn Sung-jae offered an initial clarification on the Dujjonku controversy.

On the 10th, a video titled ‘Is this... paradise...? The first public review of [Black-and-White Chef Season 2] with a full table of temple cuisine made together with Venerable Seonjae’ was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Chef Ahn Sung-jae’.

In the video, Ahn visited Venerable Seonjae from ‘Black-and-White Chef’ and talked about temple cuisine. Venerable Seonjae said, “Green onions and garlic have very hot energy, so they make you feel excited.” Ahn responded, “So is that why people out there these days are so angry?” showing agreement.

Venerable Seonjae explained, “But sweetness makes you even more irritable than green onions and garlic.” Ahn asked, “Do you know Dujjonku?” and Venerable Seonjae replied, “I saw it last time. The one you did with the children.” Ahn said, “Dubai chewy.. it is extremely sweet. So I thought it would not be good for our children because it is too sweet, but everyone also likes sweet things,” offering an explanation regarding the Dujjonku incident.

Earlier, Ahn released a video making ‘Dubai Chewy Cookies’ with his children, but he drew criticism for producing a completely different dish with his own recipe. As of 9 p.m. on the 10th, that video had 4.21 million views, and there were 13,323 comments.

Netizens mocked Ahn in the comments, saying, “I did not expect him to try to break through the Dujjonku controversy by leaning on religion,” “Why are you tattling about Dujjonku to a monk,” and “In a world where everyone is scolding you for making a Dubai hard crunchy snack, you barely found someone who understands and are timidly defending yourself.”
