Even as harsh reviews continue in Korea, the film ‘The Great Flood’ is maintaining its popularity globally. Starring Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo, ‘The Great Flood’ has held the top spot in the Netflix non-English films category for four consecutive weeks.
According to Netflix official site ‘Tudum’ on the 14th, from the 5th to the 11th, the view count for ‘The Great Flood’ (Views·the figure obtained by dividing viewing hours by runtime) was 5.2 million, the highest among non-English films.
Released on the 19th of last month, ‘The Great Flood’ also ranked No. 1 among non-English films in its first week (27.9 million), second week (33.1 million), and third week (11.1 million).
By country, it placed in the top 10 in 56 countries, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, and Japan.
Directed by Kim Byung-woo, ‘The Great Flood’ is a blockbuster that portrays researcher Anna (played by Kim Da-mi), designated as someone to be rescued in a disaster scenario, struggling not to lose her young son Jain (Kwon Eun-seong).

In Korea, ‘The Great Flood’ has faced considerable criticism for its abrupt shift in genre from disaster film to sci-fi AI, but overseas it is being received as fresh.
‘Face’, released on Netflix on the 5th and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, recorded 2.0 million views in its first week to rank fifth in the non-English films category.
‘Face’ is a film based on a comic written and drawn by Yeon Sang-ho in 2018. In Korea, it opened last September and attracted about 1,076,000 viewers.
In the non-English shows category, the Korean-style superhero series ‘Cashero’ starring Lee Jun-ho logged 2.3 million views for fourth place, followed by the Netflix variety show ‘Heukbaek Chef 2’ at fifth.
Also, ENA drama ‘Aidol-Ai’ took seventh, SBS drama ‘Kiseuneun Gwaehi Haeseo!’ eighth, and tvN drama ‘Pro Bono’ ninth.
