tcast E Channel entertainment program ‘Beating Life into Shape: Jung Seung-je Boarding House’
Jung Seung-je of ‘Jung Seung-je Boarding House’ shared his view on work and looked back on his past.
On the 14th (today) at 8 p.m., tcast E Channel entertainment program ‘Beating Life into Shape: Jung Seung-je Boarding House’ (hereafter ‘Jung Seung-je Boarding House’) airs episode 8, revealing scenes of Jung Seung-je, Jung Hyung-don, and Han Sun-hwa gathering with the boarders to make kimchi and then holding a makgeolli party. On this day, Jung also takes the lead in a ‘Beating Life into Shape’ class, telling the boarders who are wrestling with career choices about his own experiences and even making some determined, straight-talking remarks.
At the after-party following kimchi-making, Jung drinks makgeolli with the boarders and recalls his military days. He says, “In the army, we were sent out to provide civilian assistance for flood recovery, and (the residents) gave us makgeolli. I was so happy then that I cried.” Then Seo-ha, a boarder who is a ‘female army first lieutenant,’ asks, “Back then, did they not censor letters as well?” and Jung, snapping back with “I am not that much of a grandpa!” makes everyone burst into laughter.

Jung also asks Na-yun, a boarder who is a ‘21-year-old pizza shop owner,’ “Who is your favorite celebrity?” When Na-yun answers, “BLACKPINK!” Jung suggests, “Me too~. Shall we say our favorite member at the same time?”
As interest grows over whether Jung and Na-yun share the same favorite member, that evening Jung formally begins the ‘Beating Life into Shape’ class. When the boarders open up about their worries about careers, he says, “Doing what you want to do in itself is happiness. Even when everyone around me tried to stop me, teaching at a private academy and earning 2.5 million won per month was the greatest happiness for me.” He goes on to deliver some blunt words: “The most pathetic thing to say about a job is, ‘I hear this field is promising these days.’ How can you choose your career for such a lousy reason?” He continues, “I started with a 5 million won deposit and 250,000 won monthly rent. In a basement room. Even so, each day was precious and I was happy. Because…” candidly revealing his philosophy of life.
You can catch Jung in action as he gives the boarders a proper ‘Beating Life into Shape’ lesson in episode 8 of tcast E Channel ‘Jung Seung-je Boarding House,’ airing at 8 p.m. on the 14th (today).
