As BTS moves to stage a comeback performance at Gwanghwamun Square, following Gyeongbokgung and Sungnyemun, attention is focused on whether it will serve as a stage that symbolically showcases the global stature of K-pop.
Yonhap News TV reported on the 19th that the group BTS is pursuing Gwanghwamun Square as the site for its first comeback performance.
In this regard, according to the outlet, HYBE, the agency representing BTS, has applied for permits to use Gwanghwamun Square as well as the areas around Gyeongbokgung and Sungnyemun, and is continuing consultations with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the police, the National Heritage Administration, and other relevant agencies.
HYBE applied for permits using the concert title ‘K-Heritage and K-POP Convergence Concert’, and the locations requested are said to include Gyeongbokgung, Gwanghwamun and the Gwanghwamun Woldae area, and Sungnyemun. The matter is scheduled to be deliberated at a Cultural Heritage Committee meeting at 2 p.m. on the 20th.

A plan to hold the concert free of charge is under consideration, and although the exact audience size has not been finalized, it is said that a plan is being discussed to select between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees through advance applications. The concert date is reportedly being discussed for March 20, the day of their return, as well as the weekend dates of the 21st and 22nd.
This concert would be the first full-group performance in Korea by BTS, ahead of a large-scale world tour that begins on the 4th. It is drawing attention as a comeback stage set against Gwanghwamun Square and major national heritage sites.
Meanwhile, BTS will begin a 79-show world tour at Goyang Sports Complex on April 9.
