Pearl Abyss has set March 20 as the release date for ‘Crimson Desert’, which major global media have introduced as a ‘most anticipated game of 2026’.

The largest game outlet in North America, IGN, spotlighted Crimson Desert’s combat system, open world, quests, and boss battles across six features through its program ‘IGN First’, which exclusively showcases top anticipated titles. IGN said, “We were deeply impressed by the development intent behind the combat system and its creative approach,” and gave high marks for Crimson Desert’s rich content and combat system.

In addition, the North American game outlet MMORPG.com selected ‘Crimson Desert’ as its ‘Most Anticipated’ for 2026. The pick was decided by a reporter vote, and more than half of participating reporters chose Crimson Desert. The outlet reported, “With each hands-on session of different builds, including boss battles and the open world, we were left wanting to play more.”

The North American general entertainment outlet ComicBook also named ‘Crimson Desert’ the ‘biggest open-world game of 2026’, stating that it is “packed with diverse exploration elements, including breathtakingly beautiful vistas, vibrant cities, and wild, untamed fields,” and calling it “a fantasy work in which gameplay and story fit together naturally, leaving a lingering impression even after you put down the controller.”

The North American IT outlet Wccftech expressed anticipation, saying, “At last, this year we will be able to experience the adventure of Kliff across the vast continent of Pywel,” and predicted, “Judging from what has been revealed so far, Crimson Desert looks poised to become the best open-world action game of 2026.”

Praise continued in European media. The UK IT outlet Techradar unveiled five major open-world games for 2026, describing it as “the most ambitious among all action games released so far” and adding, “For fans of action games, it will be a dream title where they can experience elements from multiple masterpieces.”

Germany’s largest game outlet GameStar, in presenting the most anticipated works of 2026, said, “The greatest strength of Crimson Desert is the open world’s astonishing visibility,” and reported that the in-house ‘BlackSpace Engine’ by Pearl Abyss includes all the latest features, such as real-time global illumination and ray tracing.

In addition, Spain’s HobbyConsolas selected Crimson Desert as a representative title that will raise the bar for graphics. Japan’s GameSpark likewise said, “The open-world experience that brings together large-scale battlefields and countless NPCs is impressive,” and assessed it as a work that will have a major impact on the 2026 game market.

Selected as the ‘Best Game of CES 2026’, the well-known North American YouTuber Digital Foundry (Digital Foundry), with 1.5 million subscribers, also chose ‘Crimson Desert’. He said, “Crimson Desert offered the most informative demo at the event, and it was very new and surprising to see a Korean game studio showcase innovative technology with its own engine rather than a commercial one.” Referring to the realistic depiction of natural environments, he gave favorable reviews of the BlackSpace Engine.

Pearl Abyss has been running ‘Crimson Desert’ demos at major game shows around the world, focusing on conveying the game’s level of polish through direct play experience.

‘Crimson Desert’ is an open-world action-adventure game set on the vast continent of Pywel, depicting the journey of the protagonist Kliff(Kliff) and his Gray Mane companions. It is scheduled to launch worldwide on PC and console platforms on March 20 (Korean time).
