KBS2 ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’

Actor Kim Hyung-mook kicked off ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ with a bang.

On the January 31 and February 1 broadcasts of KBS2’s new weekend drama ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’, Kim Hyung-mook delivered a compelling performance as Yang Dong-ik, a doctor of Korean medicine at the Yangjibareun Korean Medicine Clinic. He convincingly portrayed his adversarial relationship with Gong Jeong-han (played by Kim Seung-soo), leaving a strong impression on viewers.

Yang Dong-ik made a strong impression from his first appearance. In the middle of Onjeong Market, he and Gong Jeong-han argued over an elderly woman’s refund for her herbal medicine. Gong Jeong-han criticized him as “a money-grubbing philistine who extorts the hard-earned cash of people scraping by on public jobs,” and Yang Dong-ik shot back, calling him “a hypocrite who nearly ran his hospital into the ground while cosplaying as a good doctor.”

The war of words ended with Gong Jeong-han teasing Yang Dong-ik by calling him ‘Yang-dongi’. Yang Dong-ik snapped, “Didn’t I tell you not to call me Yang-dongi?”, while Gong Jeong-han stuck out his tongue and mocked him, as if watching grade-schoolers fight.

In this way, Kim Hyung-mook vividly conveyed Yang Dong-ik’s long-harbored hostility toward Gong Jeong-han through his tone and facial expressions. Thanks to his intense performance, viewers could grasp their relationship at a glance.

Yang Dong-ik’s relationships with women drew as much attention as his clash with Gong Jeong-han. He demanded proof-of-location photos from his remarried wife, Cha Seri (played by So Yi-hyun), and insisted on eating lunch at home with her. Kim Hyung-mook naturally portrayed Yang Dong-ik’s obsession with Cha Seri, allowing viewers to infer what his married life had been like before he met her.

A different side of Yang Dong-ik emerged in front of his first love, Han Sung-mi (played by Yoo Ho-jung). As he was leaving the clinic, Yang Dong-ik saw Han Sung-mi from behind and hurriedly left the scene. Watching him, Cha Seri greeted Han Sung-mi and anxiously observed their conversation from afar. Although she is the wife of his ‘archenemy’ Gong Jeong-han, the scene laid bare Yang Dong-ik’s complicated feelings toward the woman who had been his first love.

Meanwhile, the end of episode 2 of ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ depicted Yang Dong-ik, who aspires to be a city council member, running for president of the merchants’ association. Just as his unopposed bid seemed certain to result in election without a vote, Gong Jeong-han rushed in, saying he would register as a candidate. The fiery eye contact between Yang Dong-ik and Gong Jeong-han heightened anticipation for their upcoming showdown.

Episode 3 of KBS2’s weekend drama ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’, starring Kim Hyung-mook, will air at 8 p.m. on the 7th.
