Jennie of BLACKPINK and Lee Chan-hyuk of AKMU were both named nominees in five categories at the 23rd Korean Music Awards.
According to the category-by-category nominees for the ‘23rd Korean Music Awards with (with) Kakao Creative Foundation’ announced on the 5th by the Korean Music Awards selection committee, Jennie and Lee Chan-hyuk were shortlisted in five categories, including ‘Musician of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’.
Jennie was nominated for ‘Musician of the Year’; for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best K-pop Song’ with ‘like JENNIE’; and for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best K-pop Album’ with the album ‘Ruby’.
Lee Chan-hyuk was nominated not only for ‘Musician of the Year’ but also for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Song’ with ‘Endangered Love’, and for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Album’ with ‘EROS’.
NMIXX, who reached a career high, was also nominated. In the ‘Best K-pop Album’ category, the group placed two albums on the shortlist: ‘Blue Valentine’(Blue Valentine) and ‘Fe3O4: FORWARD’(Fe3O4: FORWARD). It is the first time an artist has had two albums nominated in this category.
NMIXX received four nominations in total, including ‘Musician of the Year’, and, with ‘Blue Valentine’, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best K-pop Song’.
Competing for ‘Rookie of the Year’ are the co-ed group All Day Project, singer-songwriter Gongwon, Woo Hee-joon, the R&B duo Rakunerama, and the band Peach Truck Hijackers.
This year’s Achievement Award went to Songgolmae, who left a mark on Korean rock history with hits such as ‘I Will Love Everyone’ and ‘Gather Together’. Bae Chul-soo, a member of Songgolmae, was also nominated for ‘Best Rock Song’ this year with ‘Ieodo’.
The 23rd Korean Music Awards ceremony will be held on the 26th and broadcast live via the official YouTube channel of the Korean Music Awards and Melon.
