MBC ‘The First Man’

Actor Oh Hyun-kyung delivered a textbook portrayal of a villain.

In the MBC ‘The First Man’ episode aired on the 4th, the story followed Chae Hwa-young (Oh Hyun-kyung) trying to cover up the accident of Oh Bok-gil (played by Kim Hak-seon). Earlier, Chae Hwa-young had kidnapped Oh Bok-gil after he learned the whole truth.

Meanwhile, Chae Hwa-young was appalled to see Oh Bok-gil alive. But only for a moment; without a hint of hesitation, she struck him with a blunt weapon, leaving viewers in shock.

She also devised a scheme to get rid of Oh Bok-gil. She called Kang Nam-bong (played by Jung Chan) to the scene and disguised it as a traffic accident. However, while sizing up the situation, Chae Hwa-young made a fatal slip of the tongue to Kang Nam-bong, putting even the audience on edge.

Upon hearing news of surgery for Oh Bok-gil, Chae Hwa-young was seized by anxiety that the crime might be exposed. In addition, at the end of the broadcast, when Ma Seorin (played by Ham Eun-jung) mentioned the content of a call with Lee Kang-hyeok (played by Lee Jae-hwang), Chae Hwa-young was greatly shaken, heightening curiosity for the next episode.

In this way, Oh Hyun-kyung compellingly embodied Chae Hwa-young, who stops at nothing to ensure her own safety. In particular, she commanded the screen by conveying cold ruthlessness through a menacing gaze.

Above all, she delicately portrayed emotions that shift from moment to moment, firmly building the character arc. Thus, Oh Hyun-kyung changed the very air the moment she appeared, adding substantial weight to the series.
