KBS2 ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ broadcast capture
‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ seized viewers from its very first broadcast with the chemistry between two deeply entangled families.
Over the weekend, episodes 1 and 2 of the KBS2 weekend drama ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ (directed by Han Jun-seo / written by Park Ji-sook / produced by HB Entertainment) aired, and as the conflict between the Gong family and the Yang family entered full swing, it drew a heated response from viewers. In that context, the production team presented the two families’ long-standing stories and key relationships, spanning from past ties to their current enmity.
#A bitter feud born from a midnight elopement 30 years ago
To begin with, the feud between the Gong and Yang families dates back 30 years. The husband of Na Sun-hae (played by Kim Mi-sook) and the wife of Yang Seon-chul (played by Joo Jin-mo) fell for each other and eloped under cover of night. This incident left deep wounds on both sides. Na Sun-hae waits for a husband who may or may not return, writing letters and even once grabbing a passerby by the collar after mistaking him for her husband. Yang Seon-chul also lives with guilt, believing that his obstinacy and authority made his wife leave. Thus, the tragedy of the two families remains ongoing even after 30 years, suggesting that the burdens passed down to their children will not be easily resolved, which further draws viewers into the drama.
#Was Han Seong-mi the first love of Yang Dong-ik? A tangled middle-aged backstory
The complicated ties among the middle-aged couples add intrigue. It turns out that Han Seong-mi (played by Yoo Ho-jeong) was the first love of Yang Dong-ik (played by Kim Hyeong-mook). When Han Seong-mi married Gong Jeong-han (played by Kim Seung-su), Yang Dong-ik, in a fit of anger, married the woman who is now his ex-wife, a fact revealed through his second wife, Cha Se-ri (played by So Yi-hyun). Later, recognizing Han Seong-mi on the street and hastily avoiding her created a situation that was funny yet a little sad. Meanwhile, Cha Se-ri engaged in a tense war of nerves with Han Seong-mi and expressed a firm resolve to drive the Gong family out of Onjeong City. Curiosity is mounting over what shockwaves the pride-fueled face-off surrounding the two couples will unleash.
#Jin Se-yeon X Park Ki-woong, a romance that blossoms beyond the feud
Even amid the feud between the families, a tender romance begins to bloom. In childhood, Yang Hyeon-bin (played by Park Ki-woong), who was ostracized due to matters involving his grandmother and mother, was protected only by Gong Ju-a (played by Jin Se-yeon). Yang Hyeon-bin chose to study abroad out of resentment toward his grandfather and father, and the sincere wish of Gong Ju-a for his happiness moved viewers deeply. Reunited with Gong Ju-a as if by fate, Yang Hyeon-bin realized, upon hearing a song of comfort, that she was his first love. Afterward, the two meet again at the company as boss and subordinate, heightening curiosity over how their love will unfold in the face of a destiny that has made their families enemies.
‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ triggered both dopamine and emotion within just two episodes, delivering a tightly woven narrative that moves between past and present and multidimensional relationships that no one can predict. In particular, episode 2 recorded a rating of 17.4% (provided by Nielsen Korea, nationwide household total), and the scene where Yang Eun-bin (played by Yoon Seo-ah) shoots a promotional video for the renewal and reopening of the Korean medicine clinic surged to a per-minute high of 19.7%. Viewers also poured out passionate reactions, such as “I hope the Western clinic and the Korean medicine clinic fight all the time. It is so fun”, “The Gong and Yang family fight is entertaining. Their tiki-taka is snappy and neither ever backs down”, which greatly amplified expectations for how their story will unfold.
Episode 3 of the weekend drama ‘I Will Prescribe You Love’ will air at 8 p.m. on the 7th.
