Comedian and film producer Shim Hyung-rae appears on MBN’s ‘Kim Joo-ha’s Day & Night’ to share his candid feelings about the ‘facelift’ surgery that stirred public chatter.
MBN’s ‘Kim Joo-ha’s Day & Night’ is a new-concept issue-maker talk show that puts forward ‘day and night, cool-headedness and passion, information and emotion’. In the 11th episode airing on the 7th, Shim Hyung-rae will frankly share the behind-the-scenes of the ‘facelift’ surgery that shocked everyone when he revealed his bandaged, puffy face. While running a YouTube channel where he communicates with fans as his permanent character Young-gu, he felt that even with makeup it no longer felt the same, so he thought, “I should show the original Young-gu from the old days,” and boldly decided to undergo a ‘facelift’. Attention is on his post-surgery account, as it has been one month since the operation.
Shim will also reveal the beyond-imagination origin story of ‘Young-gu and Ddaengchil-i’, which topped the Korean box office in 1989. Shim, who personally took part in the script work for ‘Young-gu and Ddaengchil-i’, says the script was completed in one day and production took two weeksan ultra-fast turnaround. Furthermore, he confesses that thanks to the explosive response to ‘Young-gu and Ddaengchil-i’, he received an appearance fee of a whopping 200 million won at a time when the price of one apartment was 5 million won, and he shot more than 100 commercials, recalling his dazzling heyday and eliciting amazement.
Having appeared in and produced 118 films, Shim talks about the success of the smash-hit blockbuster ‘D-War’, released in 2007 and seen by 8.6 million moviegoers, as well as the twists and turns that followed that success. In addition, regarding the reportedly in-production ‘D-War 2’, he raises expectations by revealing an ambitious plan: “We will hold a ‘D-War 2’ production presentation within this year.”
