Sandeul of B1A4 revealed the surprising backstory behind his casting as the ace detective ‘L’ in the musical ‘Death Note’.
In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang held on the afternoon of the 12th at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Sandeul confessed about how he came to join the production, “In fact, I auditioned for the role of Light.”
He said, “I do not know the exact reason, but the production company contacted me to ask me to play L,” sharing how bewildered he felt at the time.
Sandeul, who said he felt great stress after being offered the role of L, added, “I thought a lot about whether I could be L. When I asked people around me, ‘Do I seem more like L or Light?’, friends who know my public image said Light, but those who know me well said definitely L,” and continued, “In everyday life, when I am not working, I stay at home and do not expend energy, and my real self resembles L, so I think that is why they saw me that way. So now I feel happiness more than pressure.”
Meanwhile, the musical ‘Death Note’ is based on the anime of the same name and portrays the fierce battle of wits between the genius high school student ‘Light’ and the ace detective ‘L’ over the ‘Death Note’, a notebook that causes the person whose name is written in it to die. In the show, Sandeul plays ‘L’, a world-renowned detective shrouded in mystery, and is delicately portraying his uncanny genius.
