Chowon of the girl group LIGHTSUM once again proved the moniker “cover master.”
On the 11th, Chowon released a cover video of the OST “JANE DOE” from the popular Japanese animation “Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc” via LIGHTSUM’s (Sangah, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, Yujeong) social media channels.
In the cover video, she drew attention by singing alone while seated on a chair, or by leaning against a chain-link fence in contemplation. In particular, from the opening she added controlled breathing and emotional restraint to a clear, firm tone, calmly unfolding the original song’s forlorn sentiment. As it moved toward the latter part, the gradually mounting emotional line reached a climax with Chowon’s heartrending facial expressions and powerfully persuasive high notes, captivating listeners.
Singer Lee Raon, who has participated in various OSTs and remake projects, joined this cover, enhancing the duet’s completeness. The blend of Lee Raon’s smooth tone and Chowon’s delicate expressiveness further expanded the protagonists’ emotional arc within the animation, deepening the song’s lingering resonance.
“JANE DOE” is a duet by Japanese singers Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada. As the title suggests, meaning an existence with not even a name left behind, it served as the ending theme for “Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc,” which portrays a tragic love that dreams of its own world yet ultimately goes unremembered.
As LIGHTSUM’s main vocalist, Chowon has consistently presented cover videos across genres. She has reinterpreted songs by domestic and international artists in her own style, including aespa’s “Flowers,” Shin Ye-young’s “Why Do We Have to Break Up,” Jungkey’s “Becomes a Burden (Feat. Whee In),” Sunwoo Jung-A’s “Courtship,” EXO’s “Miracles in December,” and Xdinary Heroes’ “Strawberry Cake.”
Last month, Chowon formed a vocal unit with LIGHTSUM members Sangah and Juhyeon and released the digital single “Beautiful and Painful (Sangah, Chowon, Juhyeon),” proving her deepened vocal prowess as a “Gen Z balladeer.” In addition, she was selected as a model for the Phenomenon Cipher collection show at “2026 F/W Seoul Fashion Week,” achieving a successful runway debut and emerging as a rookie in the fashion world.
