The intense womance in ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ is moving viewers to tears.
The tvN weekend drama ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ (directed by Park Sun-ho, Na Ji-hyun / written by Moon Hyun-kyung / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by Celltrion Entertainment, Studio Dragon), which aired through episode 10 on the 15th, is causing a sensation on home screens with developments that viewers cannot take their eyes off. The broadcast of episode 10 recorded an average of 8.6% and a peak of 9.9% nationwide on paid platforms that combine cable, IPTV, and satellite, and 8.5% average and 9.7% peak in the Seoul metropolitan area. In tvN target demographic of men and women aged 20 to 49, it ranked first in its time slot across all channels, including terrestrial networks, both nationwide and in the metropolitan area, sustaining its hot buzz.
In the previous episode, Kim Mi-sook (played by Kang Chae-young), who was directly hit by the IMF crisis, attempted to give up on life, delivering a shock, and the reason she pretended not to know the true identity of Hong Geum-bo (played by Park Shin-hye) even though she did was revealed, bringing tears. In addition, the identity of Kang Nora (played by Choi Ji-soo), the youngest daughter of the chairman of Hanmin Securities, was uncovered. With each of the Room 301 roommates having revealed personal secrets, attention is focused on how their relationships will change going forward.
▲The connection between Hong Geum-bo and Kim Mi-sook nine years ago, an unforgettable benefactor and sincerity finally understood
The letter Kim Mi-sook left for Hong Geum-bo before collapsing contained the truth she had long kept hidden. Nine years ago, when Kim Mi-sook was a high school student on an internship at an accounting firm, Hong Geum-bo was working there as a certified public accountant. Hong Geum-bo punished a senior accountant who was bullying Kim Mi-sook and lent a helping hand in a difficult situation, and Kim Mi-sook kept the image of her as an unforgettable benefactor. Many years later, the two reunited as roommates in Room 301 of the dormitory. Although Kim Mi-sook wondered why Hong Geum-bo was hiding her age, name, and identity, she presumed there must be unspeakable circumstances and quietly covered up the truth. Realizing their unexpected connection brought Hong Geum-bo to tears, and Kim Mi-sook, who never forgot her gratitude and protected her benefactor's secret, delivered a twist that turned living rooms into a sea of tears.
▲‘gold spoon ’Kang Nora, who set off on a different path from her roommates, and a relationship that rapidly grew distant
After Kim Mi-sook collapsed, the roommates rushed over and grieved together, but Go Bok-hee (played by Ha Yoon-kyung), who knows Kang Nora's true identity, resented her. Kim Mi-sook had diligently sold funds in line with directives from Hanmin Securities headquarters, but when returns plunged, she faced complaints from clients who suffered losses, and when a complaint was finally filed, fear and despair drove her to an extreme attempt. Outraged at the Hanmin Securities owner family shifting blame onto individuals and evading responsibility, Go Bok-hee exposed Kang Nora's identity, and Hong Geum-bo was also stunned to discover that the biological daughter of Chairman Kang Pil-beom (played by Lee Deok-hwa), whom she had been desperate to bring down, was right nearby. Kang Nora, feeling guilty, tried to atone in ways she could, such as personally paying Kim Mi-sook's hospital bill. Even so, Hong Geum-bo and Go Bok-hee remained wary, and although they sought Kang Nora's help to execute the slush-fund withdrawal operation, they still kept their distance. Whether the rapidly frayed relationships among the roommates can be mended, and whether the unconscious Kim Mi-sook will wake safely, draws keen attention.
▲Go Bok-hee changes her mind and joins hands with Hong Geum-bo! The beginning of a full-fledged partnership
When it became clear that even the hard-won slush-fund ledger would not be enough to shake Hanmin Securities, Hong Geum-bo devised another plan: to secure every traceable slush fund through the ledger. Judging it too much to handle alone, she reached out to Go Bok-hee to work together, but Go Bok-hee, unwilling to be dragged into something big, refused and walked away. Memories shared with the Room 301 roommates, however, held her back, and she finally accepted Hong Geum-bo's proposal, kicking off their nerve-racking collaboration. Hong Geum-bo, a lone wolf unaccustomed to receiving help, withdrew Chairman Kang's slush funds with Go Bok-hee's help for the first time, and Go Bok-hee, who had always put her own safety first, joined forces to achieve a public-interest goal, clearly showing how both women have changed. Whether their joint operation will succeed, and how ‘Miss Hong’ will unfold as it portrays the increasingly multifaceted dynamics of the roommates, stirs curiosity.
Entering a new phase and launching into its second act, the tvN weekend drama ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 p.m.
