The shocking story of the ‘Workshop Family’ younger daughter on ‘Oh Eun-young Report - Family Hell’ has been revealed.
On March 2 (Mon) at 10:40 p.m., MBC ‘Oh Eun-young Report - Family Hell’ (hereinafter ‘Family Hell’) aired the second chapter of the ‘Workshop Family’. Last week, the family drew a big reaction at home with the younger daughter, who expresses the sorrow of not being understood by her family through aggression, and relatives who confront her by pinning all conflicts on her. This week's broadcast uncovered the real reason the younger daughter came to resent her family and the secrets hidden among them. The episode recorded a 2.4% viewership nationwide and in the metropolitan area according to Nielsen Korea, and a 2054 rating of 1.3%, ranking first in its time slot.
That day, the foster parents who cared for the younger daughter from 30 days after birth until age five, in place of her busy biological parents, were introduced, drawing attention. The ‘Workshop Family’ parents said they left the younger daughter with the foster parents in the morning and brought her home after work. Even after the foster arrangement ended, the younger daughter kept in touch with them, showing a deep bond by saying, “I wish these people were my biological parents.” The foster parents, in turn, were worried that she could not detach from them and kept drifting away from her biological parents.

In addition, the younger daughter said she had fallen victim to a deception under the pretense of marriage in the past but did not receive proper comfort from her family. She confided her long-standing pain to her father at the time, but, disappointed by his unwillingness to hear more, she said she threw herself into a reservoir. She then expressed deep hurt, saying that afterward her family carried on with their daily lives as if nothing had happened. By contrast, she said her parents were far too lenient with her older sister, and out of resentment over this she came to display even stronger violence toward her sister.
Above all, the younger daughter revealed shocking episodes of being beaten by her father since childhood, leaving viewers appalled. She said she was beaten in the street in front of onlookers to the point of humiliation, and the confession that she was beaten until pieces of flesh came off left the MCs speechless. Even more shocking was her mother's response. The mother said, “I thought the younger daughter had been hit by my husband only once. I had no idea she grew up being beaten like this,” too stunned to continue.
Dr. Oh Eun-young told the ‘Workshop Family’ father, “This is not discipline but clear violence and child abuse. The younger daughter still fears confronting her father. She is likely carrying tremendous childhood trauma, PTSD,” and added, “Just as the father, when he was struggling, beat the younger daughter, the weakest at home, the younger daughter is attacking the easiest target, her older sister. It is not the sister she hates; it is the father,” cutting to the core of the ‘Workshop Family’ conflict.

In particular, the ‘Workshop Family’ father drew attention with a habit of not listening through to the end and making comments that did not fit the context of the conversation. While the younger daughter was opening up about an attempted sexual assault, he made irrelevant remarks and even suddenly started grilling meat. On this, Dr. Oh said emphatically, “They are family, but the depth and grain in how they respond to pain do not match. If children do not receive basic love and protection from their parents, they cannot live properly.”
Dr. Oh comforted the younger daughter, saying that beneath her anger she saw a sense of injustice and sadness. She added that she could also read a desire to come back into the family, drawing attention. In fact, in a conversation with her foster parents, the younger daughter laid bare her true feelings: “I want to enter the fence of family, into Mom and Dad's arms, but because I cannot, I feel sorrow and pain.” Hearing the younger daughter's truth belatedly, her mother and father finally broke into tears.
Dr. Oh earnestly urged the father to sincerely apologize to the younger daughter for not listening to her about the abuse and her wounds, and to stop the habit of cutting people off. To the younger daughter, she offered heartfelt comfort: “If you keep standing there in your childhood, it is too cold and painful. Trust me, and let us step up one stair.” Along with Dr. Oh's healing report, updates showed the ‘Workshop Family’ changed 180 degrees. The younger daughter and her father were even walking hand in hand, having grown closer. Overcoming long-held resentment and sorrow toward each other, the ‘Workshop Family’ regained their familial love and delivered deep emotion to viewers.
Meanwhile, MBC ‘Oh Eun-young Report - Family Hell’ is a special program that sheds light on family problems that leave deeper scars precisely because of their closeness, featuring five families. The story of the third family will air on March 16 (Mon) at 9 p.m.
