Singer WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn) unveiled the music video teaser for the title track ‘Human Extinction’ (Human Extinction), heightening anticipation for the release of his first studio album.
At midnight on the 3rd, his agency EDAM Entertainment released the music video teaser for the title track ‘Human Extinction’ from WOODZ’s first full-length album ‘Archive. 1’ via its official SNS channels.
The roughly 30-second video opens with the narration, “If light illuminates even your darkness, will you be able to bear it?”. Then pounding drums and a racing band sound layer in, completing a thrilling atmosphere.
The video introduces three figuresa student, an office worker, and a doctoreach appearing in their own space, and veteran actor Park Hee-soon, who appeared in ‘Judge Lee Han-yeong’, ‘It Can’t Be Helped’, and more, takes on the role of the doctor, adding gravitas. Beside each person, a white-clad WOODZ appears with an unreadable expression, sparking curiosity about what role he plays.
The direction also stands out for its deft use of the contrast between ‘light’ and ‘darkness’, the song’s key message. The same scene is presented in entirely different moods through differences in light and shadow, hinting at the duality of human nature. Over light cast on only one side of the face and the deep shade on the other, the phrase ‘Light is born in the presence of darkness’ is inserted, visually realizing the message of the coexistence of light and darkness. At the end of the teaser, as the video surges toward a climax, WOODZ’s crisp vocals come in, heightening expectations for the full track and the main music video.
The title track ‘Human Extinction’ is a song themed on the duality of light and of humanity. Starting from the reflection that “Light not only brightens my path but also exposes me; it needs to break to shine”, it asks whether we can bear it when light shines even on humanity’s flaws and desires. It poses a philosophical question about how to define the human between perfection and imperfection.
‘Archive. 1’ is WOODZ’s first full-length album since his debut and the first record to mark a new beginning. He took part in writing, composing, and producing every track on this album, distilling his own musical identity. Having topped major domestic year-end charts such as Melon with his self-written ‘Drowning’, cementing his status as a ‘trust-and-listen’ artist, expectations are high for the further musical expansion he will present through this album.
