On February 28, about 70,000 people, including members of the Hwang Young-woong fan club ‘Paradise’, filled the Gangjin festival grounds. This went beyond a simple visit and led to a ‘miracle’ for the regional economy.

As the voluntary movement among fans to ‘boost sales of Gangjin agricultural products’ spread to mark his return, the direct-trade market inside the festival grounds enjoyed an unprecedented boom. Sixty-six items of Gangjin specialties, including seaweed, kelp, and oats, sold out in no time through group orders and on-site purchases by fans.

As a result, sales for that single day on the 28th alone reached 127 million won. More than 70% of the eight-day festival’s total cumulative sales (175 million won) were generated in the one day Hwang took the stage, making this event a powerful reminder that the return of an artist like Hwang can transcend entertainment news and demonstrate how much impact a single artist can have on a local economy.

Taking the special stage at the 54th Gangjin Celadon Festival, Hwang offered a deep traditional bow to the more than 10,000 attendees who packed the venue.
