Actor Cheon Yeong-min, who has clinched the first lead role of a career, is set to play a key player in the new TV Chosun weekend miniseries ‘Doctor Shin’.
Set to premiere at 10:30 p.m. on the 14th, the new weekend miniseries ‘Doctor Shin’ (written by Phoebe (Im Seong-han)/directed by Lee Seung-hoon/produced by Ssin&Studio, TME Group) is a medical thriller about a genius doctor who challenges the realm of the divine and a woman whose brain is damaged overnight, causing her soul to fade away.
‘Doctor Shin’ is drawing explosive attention as the first medical thriller written by Phoebe, a writer who has shaken the K-drama world time and again with imagination that exceeds expectations. With director Lee Seung-hoon, who helmed ‘Marriage Lyrics, Divorce Composition’, joining, it signals the birth of another powerful syndrome.
Cheon Yeong-min plays Kim Jin-ju, the stylist to Momo (played by Baek Se-ra), in ‘Doctor Shin’. In the story, Kim Jin-ju, like Geum Bara (played by Ju Se-bin), comes from the Nua Foundation orphanage and is highly resourceful, yet timid and withdrawn in many respects. Anticipation is mounting over how Cheon Yeong-min, who has showcased a diverse acting spectrum in the dramas ‘The Good Detective’, ‘The Devil Judge’, ‘Night Has Come’, and the film ‘Morning of the World’, will depict Kim Jin-ju, a character fated for a whirlwind of turmoil.
In this regard, an on-site moment capturing Cheon Yeong-min delivering flawless character embodiment has been captured. While dressing Momo, Cheon Yeong-min delicately expressed Kim Jin-ju being startled yet abashed by a remark Momo tossed out. Even in the moment when Kim Jin-ju converses with Geum Bara, the timid personality was conveyed intact, heightening curiosity about the character.
Cheon Yeong-min said, “‘Can I really do this?’ was the first thought that came to mind, so I felt both excited and under a lot of pressure. Still, I take it as a sign that considerable trust has been placed in me. To repay that trust, I intend to give my best to every scene. I am approaching this project with the hope that it will become another turning point in my acting career,” sharing thoughts on being selected for the first lead role of a career.
Additionally, Cheon Yeong-min said, “The works of Im Seong-han have always been highly talked about and deeply immersive, and as an actor, I think taking part in such a project is a rare opportunity. While reading the script, the desire arose: ‘I really want to do this role well.’ Within the uniquely powerful storytelling that defines this writer, I want to add my own color and complete a strong character,” reaffirming a burning passion for acting.
The production team stated, “Cheon Yeong-min is breathing life into the character of Kim Jin-ju with solid acting skills honed over time, radiating exceptional passion,” and added, “Watch for Cheon Yeong-min to deliver a major transformation as an important key player in ‘Doctor Shin’.”
The new weekend miniseries ‘Doctor Shin’ presents a provocative narrative that traverses love and desire, taboo and sacrifice, through the uncanny romance among a top star who falls into a coma due to an unforeseen accident, the man who loved her, and the men who love her now. It will be released simultaneously on TV Chosun and Coupang Play at 10:30 p.m. on March 14.
