SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu X S.Coups.
The first mini album by SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups X Mingyu reclaimed the top spot on Japan’s Oricon chart roughly five months after its release.
According to Oricon on the 3rd, S.Coups X Mingyu’s first mini album ‘HYPE VIBES’ took No. 1 on the ‘Daily Album Ranking’ (as of March 2). The excitement from last month’s ‘CxM [DOUBLE UP] LIVE PARTY’ held in two Japanese cities appears to have translated into a climb in the rankings.
Released on September 29 last year, ‘HYPE VIBES’ has steadily garnered support at home and abroad and is on the verge of surpassing cumulative sales of one million copies. At the time of release, the album set a new record for the highest first-week sales (album sales in the first week after release) among K-pop unit albums, and it also achieved the highest ranking for a K-pop unit on the U.S. Billboard main albums chart, the ‘Billboard 200’.
Its popularity in Japan was also hot. Within just one day of release, the album recorded shipments exceeding 100,000 units and received a Gold Disc ‘Gold’ certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan, while sweeping No. 1 on key charts such as Oricon’s ‘Weekly Album Ranking’ and ‘Weekly Combined Album Ranking’. The ‘CxM [DOUBLE UP] LIVE PARTY’, held four times in Aichi and Chiba, also sold out every show, proving S.Coups X Mingyu’s formidable ticket power. The performances will continue at Kaohsiung Arena from the 24th to 26th of next month.
SEVENTEEN’s new song ‘Tiny Light’, released on the 27th of last month, is also receiving a positive response. Immediately upon release, the track shot straight to No. 1 on ‘THE HOT 100’, the real-time chart of Japan’s AWA Music, and entered Oricon’s ‘Daily Digital Single Ranking’ (as of February 27) at No. 3. The song will also be featured as the ending theme for Part 2 of the animation <Beastars FINAL SEASON>, which will be released exclusively worldwide on Netflix next month.
