MBN ‘Active Singer King 3’

Lee Su-yeon of trot powerhouse Totalset overcame a crisis and headed for the final hurdle of ‘Active Singer King 3’.

On the broadcast on the 3rd of MBN ‘Active Singer King 3’, Lee entered the first match of the final. Having taken first place in last week’s semifinal mission and showcased overwhelming skill, she chose Yoon Myung-sun’s ‘Dad, Father, Honored Father’ as the mission song for the first stage, ‘New Song Clash’.

Having previously received a love call from composer Yoon Myung-sun saying, “I want to work with Lee Su-yeon for sure,” Lee personally chose Yoon’s song that day and explained her reason, saying, “When I looked at the lyrics, it felt like a song that contains my story, so I will try to sing it with all my heart.”

With ‘Dad, Father, Honored Father’, Lee unfolded the story of losing her father at a young age with composure yet deep emotion, moving the audience to tears.

After watching the stage, Joo Hyun-mi praised her, saying, “It is a singer’s ability to show one’s own emotions and interpretation to the public through a new song and to make them empathize. Lee Su-yeon’s unique sensibility and her clear, pure high notes are superb. She has a level of skill that is astonishing,” while Yoon Myung-sun, who gifted the song, commented, “I felt from the beginning that Lee Su-yeon is a sad person, and when a sad person sings a sad song, people receive true comfort. Lee Su-yeon gave listeners of the song a sincerely beautiful consolation.”

Despite favorable reviews for the performance of ‘Dad, Father, Honored Father’, she received 571 points, putting advancement to the second match in jeopardy. However, thanks to the wholehearted support of the national judging panel, she achieved a dramatic rebound, tying for seventh with Hong Ja and seizing a coveted ticket to the much-anticipated second match of the final.
