Actress Ha Ye-rin addressed the recent controversy over racism.
At a press conference for the Netflix series ‘Bridgerton 4’ held at Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 4th, Ha Ye-rin said, “I also remember seeing related comments. When I was on such sets, I never felt anything was discriminatory.”
Regarding promotional content for ‘Bridgerton 4’ recently carried out overseas, a racism controversy arose over things such as Ha Ye-rin being the only one excluded from a photo shoot or being placed at the end in talk content.
Ha Ye-rin said, “However, I do think there were certainly areas where detailed specifics were overlooked. That said, I do not think it was intentional or conscious,” and added, “Looking back on that moment, there are points where I can understand why there was that kind of response. Still, I think it is an opportunity for us to show tolerance by understanding the small details that may have been overlooked in such situations. Conversely, I also see it as a chance to learn that we must not overlook those details.”
She continued, “There have also been points in my work so far that made me hesitate or that I had to go through, so I found this controversy thought-provoking. I just hope we take it as a chance to learn through such situations. I hope it does not lead to excessive criticism or hate.”
‘Bridgerton4’ is a romance series in which Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), a free-spirited soul indifferent to marriage, crosses the boundaries of love, identity, and class between the ‘lady in the silver dress’ he meets at a masquerade ball and Sophie Beck (Ha Ye-rin), a maid in reality.
Having gained popularity from Season 1 through its spin-offs, the new season is also being loved, ranking No. 1 on the Global TOP 10 shows. Ha Ye-rin, who plays the lead role of Sophie Beck, is a Korean-Australian actress and is known as the granddaughter of actress Son Sook, drawing even more attention.
