KBS2 ‘Simu-myeon Yeonliri’
The bumpy rural survival project of Park Sung-woong shifts into full gear.
Scheduled to air on the 26th at 9:50 p.m., the new KBS2 miniseries ‘Simu-myeon Yeonliri’ (directed by Choi Yeon-su / written by Song Jeong-rim, Wang Hye-ji / produced by Sim Story) is a slapstick family reboot healing drama about the very urban Seong Tae-hun household, suddenly dropped into the supposedly pristine yet fierce(?) zone of ‘Yeonliri’, struggling to make a comeback to Seoul.
Set to anchor Thursday prime time, ‘Simu-myeon Yeonliri’ is helmed by director Choi Yeon-su, who co-directed ‘24-Hour Health Club’, ‘Crazy Love’, and ‘Chulsapyo’, with a script co-written by writer Song Jeong-rim, who penned ‘Marry Me, Maengkkong!’, and writer Wang Hye-ji, who wrote ‘Romance Without Love’. On top of that, actors Park Sung-woong and Lee Soo-kyung play a married couple, drawing attention.
The second teaser released on the 4th opens with K-dad Seong Tae-hun (played by Park Sung-woong), who rose to a department head position at a large corporation on the strength of his ability alone, arriving in the rural ‘Yeonliri’ due to a sudden reassignment. He appears confidently, telling the residents that his goal is cabbage development. However, village head Im Joo-hyung (played by Lee Seo-hwan) says, “Do not ever help Seong Tae-hun,” and shows blatant hostility toward him, who belongs to ‘Matstory’. The two men’s wrong(?) first meeting foreshadows unusual conflict.
Seong Tae-hun runs into obstacles in farming due to interference from Im Joo-hyung, and tensions mount to the point of a physical scuffle. Department head Seong Tae-hun, who must succeed at cabbage farming to return to Seoul, and village head Im Joo-hyung, who aims to protect the pride of the village, collide at every turn, with their nemesis-like chemistry driving interest to a fever pitch.
Seong Tae-hun and Jo Mi-ryeo (played by Lee Soo-kyung) are the parents of eldest son Seong Ji-cheon (played by Lee Jin-woo), and village head Im Joo-hyung and Nam Hye-seon (played by Nam Gwon-a) have an only daughter, Im Bo-mi (played by Choi Gyu-ri). The two are strongly drawn to each other, forming a tender first-love undercurrent that draws attention. Im Bo-mi, whose heart wavers for the Yeonliri ‘new face’ Seong Ji-cheon, cautiously reveals her true feelings, saying, “This is a secret between us; keep it a secret.” Amid the adults in conflict, an unexpected thrill sprouts between them, stirring the hearts of viewers. The secret emotions that begin between two households little different from enemies are expected to add further tension and excitement to the story.
With the Yeonliri ‘brand-new rookies’ the Seong family and the village head’s family, along with residents brimming with personality, set to create an unpredictable rural life, anticipation is high for what stories will unfold. The new KBS2 miniseries ‘Simu-myeon Yeonliri’ will premiere on March 26 at 9:50 p.m.
