Actor Uhm Ji-won shared what happened when Uhm underwent emergency surgery for an ankle fracture while traveling in Japan.

On the 5th, a video titled ‘An Unprecedented Situation on a Trip, Emergency Surgery for Uhm Ji-won’ was posted on the YouTube channel run by Uhm Ji-won. The video shows the accident that occurred during a trip to Japan over the Lunar New Year holiday, Uhm’s return to Korea for surgery, and how Uhm is doing now. Uhm explained that the ankle is currently fixed with 18 screws inserted and recounted the situation at the time.

Uhm said, “It was not an injury from skiing; several circumstances overlapped and led to the accident,” and added, “My shoe got caught in a manhole, fixing my foot in place, and my ankle twisted. The bones in my foot were completely shattered.”

Uhm continued, “Both the larger bone and the smaller bone were broken, and in particular the larger bone was shattered into pieces,” and explained, “For now, the broken bones have been fixed in place.”

The surgery took about two hours, and Uhm appeared relieved, saying, “I checked the results of the surgery, and they told me it went well without any issues.”

Uhm added, “I gained an important realization through this,” continuing, “People talk a lot about gold spoons and silver spoons, but I realized there is an even more important spoon. The ‘muscle spoon’ is the best.”

Addressing fans, Uhm said, “You were probably startled to see me suddenly injured, but I am recovering well, so please do not worry,” and added, “I will also share the rehabilitation process and how I look after recovering later.”
