Kang Hye-jung, Jung Seung-won, and Ock Joo-hyun of the musical ‘Anna Karenina’ are set to appear on KBS ‘Open Concert’ to convey the powerful emotion of the production.

In the show, Ock Joo-hyun plays the title role, ‘Anna Karenina’, a noblewoman of beauty whose path crosses love and tragedy. With delicate expressiveness and outstanding vocal prowess, Ock Joo-hyun has been praised as ‘Anna herself’, leaving a deep afterglow with audiences who visit the theater. On this broadcast, she is expected to sing the show number ‘Freedom and Happiness’, in which Anna asks herself what life she truly desires while affirming her love for Alexei Vronsky and declaring her resolve to go to him.
Jung Seung-won takes the stage as Alexei Vronsky, a promising young officer with striking looks who falls into a fated love with Anna at first sight, and he is receiving strong applause from audiences. Together with Ock Joo-hyun, he is slated to perform the musical number ‘If You Are Not By My Side’. This piece portrays the passionate love of Anna Karenina and Alexei Vronsky as they reveal their sincere feelings for each other despite the real-world circumstances that stand between them.
Kang Hye-jung appears as Patti, the era’s top operatic diva soprano who enjoyed worldwide fame in the late 19th century. She is reportedly set to sing the number for Patti, ‘Oh, My Beloved’, which dramatically captures the emotions of the protagonist Anna, who has been devastated by the loss of her family and by social humiliation and isolation due to her fiery love with Vronsky, drawing significant attention. Notably, this number, which leaves an unforgettable resonance with theatergoers, was pre-released on major music platforms including Melon, YouTube Music, and Bugs, where it received great affection from audiences.
The musical ‘Anna Karenina’, featuring Ock Joo-hyun, Jung Seung-won, and Kang Hye-jung, is based on the novel of the same name, one of the three great literary works by Tolstoy, which delves deeply into love, marriage, and family against the backdrop of the Russian aristocratic society of the late 19th century. Returning after seven years since 2019, the musical ‘Anna Karenina’ unfolds the fundamental reflections of humanity on ‘love’, ’happiness‘, ’choice’ and ‘conflict’ through graceful music and refined stage aesthetics, delivering a weighty message to audiences.
