MBN·Channel S ‘Jeon Hyun-moo Plan 3’
‘Jeon Hyun-moo Plan 3’ Jeon Hyun-moo-Kwak Tube-Pyo Ye-jin sparked both salivation and laughter among viewers with a food trip that took over the seafood of Jeju.
On the 6th (Fri), episode 21 of the full-on real curbside food-umentary ‘Jeon Hyun-moo Plan 3’ (jointly produced by MBN·Channel S·SK Broadband) featured Jeon Hyun-moo-Kwak Tube (Kwak Jun-bin) and actor Pyo Ye-jin in a special covering ‘all about Jeju seafood’. In ‘the food paradise’ that is Jeju, they swept everything from a local spot famed for ‘Okdom Mutguk’, to a Jeju market-style ‘Bomal Kalguksu’, to a master chef restaurant that holds a world-first patent for ‘Daggeumbari Hoe-chigi’, gifting the living-room audience a bona fide gourmet trip.
That day in Jeju, Jeon Hyun-moo and Kwak Tube kicked things off by belting out ‘Gamsugwang’ and ‘Blue Night of Jeju’, respectively, raising the mood from the start. Jeon Hyun-moo said, “It is a blessing that Korea has Jeju,” and shouted, “Jeju has too much to eat, so let us organize it ourselves.” The first meal was okdom, ‘Jeju’s treasure’. At a Jeju local eatery popular with civil servants, the two faced Okdom Mutguk, ranked No. 1 among broth lovers. While Jeon Hyun-moo enjoyed it elegantly, saying, “Like fine dining, it makes you savor each flake of (okdom) meat,” Kwak Tube slurped down the heap of julienned radish in the soup and said, “It is like noodles,” completing a ‘polar-opposites’ mukbang. When ‘fresh grilled okdom’ followed, the two marveled, saying, “The definition of crispy outside and tender inside changed today.”
After filling up well, they met their ‘eating friend’ Pyo Ye-jin and headed to a bomal kalguksu favorite near ‘Daejeong 5-day Market’ by Moseulpo Port. Receiving the bowl of knife-cut noodles with a deep green look, Kwak Tube tossed out a dad joke out of nowhere: “There is yubu in here? Maybe it is because I am a married man~” Pyo Ye-jin, stone-faced, said, “Sorry, but I cannot react, this is awkward~” At that, Kwak Tube quipped, “A taxi will come any minute,” invoking the drama ‘Mobeom Taxi’ that Pyo Ye-jin appeared in, drawing big laughs. The kidding ended with one spoon of broth. After tasting the bomal kalguksu, Pyo Ye-jin lavished praise, saying, “You really have to come here. It is truly delicious,” and Kwak Tube gave a thumbs-up, saying, “It is upscale and rich.” Having even stirred in rice to finish the bomal course, the three naturally shifted into a candid conversation.
At that moment, Jeon Hyun-moo asked Pyo Ye-jin, “I heard you were the youngest flight attendant?” Pyo Ye-jin answered, “I started as a flight attendant at 19, but I quit after a year and a half.” She continued, “I was going to new countries and meeting new people, but when I looked ten years ahead, I felt boxed in. So I quit and set out on the path of acting.” However, there was parental opposition when she switched to acting. Pyo Ye-jin recalled the hard time: “My father completely cut off conversation, and my mother was upset and cried with me.” Even so, she beamed, saying, “Now my parents are happier than anyone,” and added warmly, “I really want to let my father know about this restaurant.”
Next, the three moved to Sagye Port and visited a daggeumbari restaurant known as ‘the final boss of Jeju seafood’. Tasting daggeumbari that goes for as much as 2.4 million won per fish, they burst out with genuine reactions like, “It is full and nutty,” and “The texture is strong and very chewy.” Kwak Tube even made people laugh by doubting himself: “I tried it once long ago, but I do not think that was real daggeumbari.” Then a platter of ‘daggeumbari special cuts’ came out, with everything cooked from the stomach, liver, lips, cheek, neck, skin, fin, to the eyeballs, and the mood boiled over. Jeon Hyun-moo and Pyo Ye-jin bickered as they offered the ‘eyeball’ to each other, cracking everyone up on site.
Kwak Tube, who tasted an eyeball first, delivered a vividly TMI description: “There is no smell, but when you bite the pupil it feels a bit.. The taste of chewing the eye muscles is really good.” The one remaining eyeball went to Jeon Hyun-moo. Then, insisting on making Pyo Ye-jin try an eyeball too, he unexpectedly declared a flex, “Should I spend 2.4 million won again?” making everyone burst into laughter. After finishing with a milky ‘Eojin-tang’, when Jeon Hyun-moo asked about her plans ahead, Pyo Ye-jin revealed her filial heart: “My next plan is simply to bring my parents to Jeju and eat daggeumbari again.”
As the ‘all about Jeju seafood’ special with Pyo Ye-jin, who showed frank and unadorned charm, wrapped up, the teaser that followed captured Jeon Hyun-moo-Kwak Tube embarking on part two in Jeju, the ‘Jeju resident special’, raising anticipation for the next episode.
