'Bogum Magical' has gone beyond simply running a barbershop and has blended into the lives of the village residents.
In episode 6 of tvN 'Bogum Magical' (directed by Son Su-jeong) aired on Friday the 6th, Park Bo-gum, Lee Sang-yi, and Kwak Dong-yeon, together with the all-around one-day part-timer Rain, not only ran the barbershop attentively to drive customer satisfaction, but also took on on-site services beyond the barbershop threshold to help with residents' work, building strong bonds with the villagers and delivering a healing time.
The broadcast recorded a nationwide household average of 3.6% and a peak of 4.5%, and a Seoul metropolitan area household average of 3.7% and a peak of 4.7%, ranking No. 1 in its time slot among cable and general programming channels. In tvN's target 20-49 men and women demo, it achieved a nationwide average of 1.9% and a peak of 2.3%, and a metropolitan area average of 1.6% and a peak of 2.3%, taking No. 1 in its time slot across all channels including terrestrial. The barbershop trio tallied a total of 105,000 won, including tips given with affection. Breaking 100,000 won in revenue for the first time on the fourth day of business, their surprised reactions brought out adorable smiles.
On day five, business began on a high note with heartfelt letters from the children who had visited on Fish-shaped Bun Day. To support the trio, world star Rain made a surprise appearance as a 'special part-timer,' turning up the heat. He showed warm sincerity on an epic scale by arriving with a whole rack of beef short ribs for the younger members.
After the warm moment, Rain immediately transformed into a 'passionate part-timer' fully equipped with zeal, stamina, and banter, bustling in and out of the barbershop. He adeptly handled tasks big and small such as cleaning, hand massages, and grilling fish-shaped buns, serving as a one-man army in support of the trio. Not stopping there, he went out on calls with Lee Sang-yi, swiftly fixing a torn vinyl greenhouse and moving a heavy washing machine, showing without reserve his side as a versatile all-around talent different from his glamorous stage persona.
Rookie barber Park Bo-gum not only provided hair styling that lifted customers' moods but also added warmth with considerate attentiveness. In particular, for a long-time bachelor customer who wanted to transform into the style his girlfriend desired, he carefully recreated the look from a photo, turning him into the perfect 'Muju Matt Damon,' once again proving his outstanding skills as a barber.
He also took it upon himself to be a keeper of secrets, considering that the bachelor customer felt burdened by romance news spreading in the village, and politely asking other customers to keep it confidential. Park Bo-gum's kindness in looking closely after the hearts of those who came to the barbershop, beyond just a simple haircut, left viewers deeply moved, showing him as a fully rounded head barber with not only skill but also thoughtfulness.
Lee Sang-yi likewise transformed into a Korean alphabet teacher for a 92-year-old late-learning grandmother, helping with her studies and deepening his chemistry with the residents. Kwak Dong-yeon assisted Park Bo-gum by shampooing customers and, to refuel the older members, quickly cooked kimchi stew loaded with meat and fried eggs, excelling as a chef with perfect sense and injecting vitality into the barbershop.
Meanwhile, at the end of the broadcast, Park Bo-gum began cutting the hair of a regular elementary school customer who wanted a medium bob length. As Park Bo-gum pulled out the clippers, it raised curiosity about whether he could pull off a bob cut with clippers.
