Actor Joo In-young joins the drama ‘Doctor Seomboy’.
According to her agency Baeureul Pumda on the 9th, Joo In-young has been cast in ENA new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Doctor Seomboy’ (written by Kim Ji-su/ directed by Lee Myung-woo/ planned by KT Studio Genie/ produced by The Studio M), which is set for release in 2026, continuing her busy slate this year.
Based on the webtoon ‘Jonbeo Doctor’ (by Kim Tae-pung), which is being serialized to great popularity on KakaoPage/ Kakao Webtoon, the drama ‘Doctor Seomboy’ is a medical isolation romantic comedy depicting public health doctor Do Ji-ui (played by Lee Jae-wook), who sets foot on the notoriously shunned island of Pyeondongdo, and a nurse full of secrets, Yuk Hari (played by Shin Ye-eun).
In the drama, Joo In-young takes on the role of Hwang Sinhye, a nurse who has kept watch over the Pyeondongdo public health clinic for 15 years. A key figure in Pyeondongdo who keeps not only island residents but even civil servants firmly in line, Hwang Sinhye is someone who checks on patients before anyone else and thoughtfully understands their circumstances. While showcasing a bickering chemistry with Do Ji-ui, she becomes a reliable helper to Yuk Hari as a senior who offers warm advice, and she is expected to serve as a solid counterbalance in the narrative.
Joo In-young has built trust through stable acting skills and realistic character portrayal across a range of projects. In this work, she is expected to carve her presence once again by presenting a wide spectrum, from the image of a down-to-earth, everyday-life nurse to weighty emotional acting.
The production team said, “Hwang Sinhye is the person who knows Pyeondongdo best. The distinct solid energy and detailed expressiveness of actor Joo In-young fit the character perfectly,” and added, “Within the special space of an island, the warm and cheerful stories that unfold will be greatly invigorated.”
Building anticipation for Joo In-young, ENA new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Doctor Seomboy’ will air this year as a Monday-Tuesday series on the ENA channel, and it will be released as free VOD on KT Genie TV.
