Broadcaster Ji Sang-ryeol, who has a past record of a drunk hit-and-run, has been appointed as the exclusive model for a designated driver company.
Cheonsa Designated Driver (operator Angel Plus) said on the 12th, “We have signed Ji Sang-ryeol as the main model for Cheonsa Designated Driver,” and added, “We expect that his widely familiar and friendly image, built through long broadcasting activity, will firmly imprint on consumers that this is a reliable designated driver service.”
Selected as a designated driver model, Ji Sang-ryeol said, “Through YouTube content, I have indirectly experienced designated driving and was able to hear both the difficulties of drivers and the stories of customers at the same time,” and added, “With the 20-year tradition and reputation of Cheonsa Designated Driver, I will promote the brand with a sense of responsibility so that it can be a satisfying service for both users and designated driver drivers.”
It draws attention because Ji Sang-ryeol himself was the person who committed a serious drunk driving offense in the past.
In August 2000 in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, he drove in a heavily intoxicated state with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.126%, a level that results in license revocation, and encountered a police sobriety checkpoint. At the time, he reversed his vehicle to evade the stop and crashed into a following taxi, and an arrest warrant was even sought on suspicion of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run).
Amid repeated cases of celebrities, including Lee Jae-ryong, driving while extremely intoxicated drawing public censure, the selection of Ji Sang-ryeol, who has a ‘heavy drinker’ image, as a promotional ambassador is also attracting attention.
Ji Sang-ryeol has been appearing across terrestrial broadcasters and YouTube, including ‘Men Who Run the Household Season 2’ on KBS 2TV, ‘Salon House’ on JTBC, ‘Matchelin Guide’ on SBS Biz, and the YouTube channel ‘Hamyeon Daeri’. At the end of last year, he also won the Excellence Award in the Reality category at the KBS Entertainment Awards for ‘Men Who Run the Household Season 2’ and ‘Pursuit of Longstanding Encounters’.
