KBS1 ‘Human Theater’
‘Human Theater’ Miss Kim revealed an admirable life of diligently moving between farming and singing.
On the March 13 broadcast of KBS1 ‘Human Theater’, the fifth episode of ‘At the End of the Land, Miss Kim’ continued with scenes of Miss Kim and her father preparing for a duet on KBS1 ‘Morning Yard’. After being disheartened for a moment when practice did not go well, the two, who smile just by looking at each other, went back to practicing hard. The father said, “I hope things go well for my daughter, and that she does well,” and added, “(Me too) I have a bit of ambition,” drawing laughter from viewers.
A few days later, for the father to appear on TV, the whole family set out on an outing to Seoul. Delighted like a child while riding a Han River cruise, the father said, “I came up to Seoul at 19. A friend of my eldest uncle worked at a nightclub, and at the time, working as a waiter gave me a chance to sing. ’Would someone see me and scout me?’ I had that hope,” sharing stories from his youth. He went on, “But they took me to a garment factory. I held a sewing machine instead of a microphone. I gave up my dream of becoming a singer that way, but my daughter achieved it in my stead.”
The next day, during the rehearsal before the live broadcast, his mind went blank and he broke into a sweat. However, once the show began, he regained his composure and worked the stage, eliciting a response. The father shared, “At first I wondered how I would do this, but once it ended, I felt relieved.” Miss Kim also said, “When I go on air alone I get extremely nervous, but today Dad and Mom were there, so I was not nervous at all. I am so happy.”
Afterward, Miss Kim took to her first outdoor stage of the year. “Winter is the off-season. We start in March, so it is a very good start,” she said, heading to an event venue in Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province. That day, in addition to fans of Miss Kim, relatives from Haenam turned out in force. There was also a foreign fan. The foreign fan, who says they live in Jeolla Usuyeong in Haenam, said they became a fan after meeting Miss Kim and her father at a Jindo festival.
Although the venue was packed with no room to step, because fans and family had come, Miss Kim felt at ease. She also gained a confidence she had not had before. Miss Kim said, “My goal today is to instill the recognition, ’There is a singer named Miss Kim’. I want to do well so that people think, ’Our Chaerin really does well’,” and, true to that resolve, she presented a splendid performance, filling the venue with cheers and applause.
After the event, the young farmer Miss Kim was also shown planting seed potatoes and sowing scallions. With her grandmother and a friend of her father dropping by, they finished the farm work more cheerfully than usual, and the family of Miss Kim took a brief stroll along the Haenam seashore, feeling happy. Whenever life in Seoul is hard, Miss Kim draws strength by thinking of her family in Haenam, the village at the end of the land. Diligently moving between farmer and singer, Miss Kim is a truly admirable person.
