An actor and member of the girl group Girls Generation, Seohyun moved both the classical community and the public with a heartfelt challenge.
On the evening of the 13th, at Lotte Concert Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, Seohyun took the stage as an amateur soloist and special guest for the ‘8th Regular Concert of the Sol Philharmonic Orchestra’, and she successfully concluded the performance amid rousing applause from an audience that filled more than 2,000 seats.
This stage drew major attention even before the performance, as it came together only about seven months after Seohyun picked up the violin again for the first time since childhood. When news spread that the concert message of ‘pure passion for music’ resonated with her and that she had accepted the invitation to collaborate as an amateur, encouragement followed from musicians including world-renowned violinist Kim Bomsori. Among classical music lovers, messages of support such as “a meaningful step by a popular artist serves as a bridge that lowers the threshold to classical music” poured in, heightening anticipation for the stage.
During the preparation period, Seohyun put in intensive practice of 8 to 10 hours each day, showing a serious attitude toward the stage. In particular, the piece selected for performance, ‘Csárdás’ by Vittorio Monti, is a difficult work characterized by dazzling technique and abrupt tempo changes, making it a very bold challenge for an amateur. However, with her trademark immersion and passion, Seohyun saw the piece through to the end, personally proving that this stage was not a one-off event but a ‘pure challenge’ directed at music.

The encore that closed the concert was ‘Into the New World’, the debut song of Girls Generation. Set to orchestral accompaniment, the familiar melody played on violin moved the audience, and the hall soon filled with a standing ovation.
The meaning of this concert did not remain only in the onstage melodies. Seohyun not only participated on a pro bono basis without any separate collaboration fee, but also agreed to donate the concert proceeds to support socially disadvantaged groups such as an orchestra for people with disabilities, demonstrating a model of ‘good influence’.
After the performance, through her agency, Seohyun offered humble yet warm remarks: “My skills are lacking, but it was a time I prepared with all sincerity and joy,” and “I sincerely hope my performance became a small courage for someone to make a new start and a warm comfort to tired hearts.”
Going beyond her activities as an actor, Seohyun put into practice a pure passion for art and the value of sharing. This latest challenge is expected to be remembered as one of the most dignified paths a popular artist can take.
