After an AI-made ‘Yu Gwan-sun Fart Rocket’ video posted on TikTok on March 1 Independence Movement Day sparked controversy, an ‘Ahn Jung-geun Fart Train’ video has now appeared.
Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said, “Netizens tipped me off,” adding, “When I checked TikTok, five AI-made Ahn Jung-geun fart videos had been uploaded, and cumulative views were about 130,000.”
The main content composites photos of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun onto trains and balloons, subjecting him to ‘ridicule’ with fart gags.
TikTok also hosts numerous malicious pieces of content made from photos of Yu Gwan-sun, Yun Bong-gil, and Kim Gu, among others.
Professor Seo said, “According to the legal community, it is difficult to impose substantive punishment for such malicious content,” noting, “because the crime of insult does not apply to the deceased.”
Defamation of the deceased is established only for false statements of fact, making it far more stringent than ordinary defamation.
He emphasized, “For now, when such malicious content is found, the most important thing is that our netizens actively report it so the videos cannot be surfaced.”
He also admonished, “TikTok must strengthen proactive monitoring to ensure this never happens again.”
Meanwhile, President Lee Jae Myung announced on the 28th of last month that he had joined ‘TikTok’. Through X (X·formerly Twitter), he boasted, “February 28, something big(?) is coming.” He also made a ‘finger heart’ and a ‘cheek heart’ and said, “You know to hit ‘Follow’, ‘Like’, and even ‘Comment’ on the (TikTok account), right? I would appreciate your support.”
