KBS JOY ‘Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller’
In episode 359 of KBS Joy ‘Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller’, which aired on the 6th, a guest who had built assets of 500 million won through stock investing but could not shake an obsession with buying appeared to seek advice.
The guest confided, “I grew my assets from 200 million won to 500 million won through stocks, but I only buy and do not know how to sell,” and, “I feel anxious if I fail to buy up to a set amount.” He said that in the past he could not save and lived with spending as a priority. However, deciding he could not continue that way, he focused on repaying debt, including a student loan and a jeonse deposit loan, and after clearing all liabilities in 2019, he began in earnest to build assets.
He experienced short term gains after starting to invest in stocks on a recommendation from a coworker and came to find investing enjoyable, then gradually expanded his scope to blue chips and U.S. stocks, greatly increasing his assets. In particular, he kept up extreme frugality, such as cutting food costs and minimizing living expenses to redirect funds into investments. However, as this lifestyle repeated, his fixation on investing grew stronger and he even began to feel anxiety about consumption.
After hearing the story, Seo Jang-hoon said, “Now that you have some leeway, you should take care of your health,” and to the currently single guest he pointed out, “To meet a good match, you need to break free from the compulsion to invest in stocks and invest in yourself.” He then showed before and after photos of the ‘Drastic Makeover Man’ who appeared in episode 356 and emphasized that attention should now turn to investment in oneself rather than stocks.
Lee Su-geun also advised, “Considering the current situation in the U.S. market, tidy up part of your holdings and try investing in grooming yourself,” adding, “You are still a bachelor, so you should take care of yourself.”
