Meryl Streep, who appears in the sequel film ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ being released after 20 years, spoke about the influence of Korean culture she feels in everyday life.

Meryl Streep attended a press conference for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ held on the morning of the 8th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. Present were Streep, who plays Miranda, and Anne Hathaway, who plays Andy.

For Meryl Streep, this is her first-ever visit to Korea, and for Anne Hathaway, it is her first in eight years. This is also their first time visiting for promotional events. Their schedule includes the press conference, an evening red-carpet event for the visit, and an appearance on the tvN variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block’.

Streep, widely regarded as a leading actor in Hollywood, said she often encounters the popularity of Korean culture in everyday life. She said, “I am very interested in Korean barbecue,” and “I spend a lot of time in LA, and there is a barbecue restaurant near the hockey rink where my son plays, so I go there often.”

She added, “I now have six grandchildren, and they all talk about ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ every day,” and “They talk through the plot and even sing along. Being influenced by Korean culture like this is proof that the world is connected. I think culture is what affects the lives of one another even when we are apart.”

At the end of the event, Streep and Hathaway were delighted to receive a gift prepared by the organizers: red high heels featuring embroidery inspired by traditional Korean flower shoes.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is a sequel released 20 years after the first film. It follows Miranda (Meryl Streep), still the editor-in-chief of the top fashion magazine ‘Runway,’ as she reunites with Andy (Anne Hathaway), who returns as a features editor, and together they lead the fashion world while adapting to a changing media environment.

The film will open in South Korea on the 29th, the first in the world.
