Makaya of the group AMPERS&ONE (Na Camden, Brian, Choi Ji-ho, Yoon Si-yoon, Kairel, Makaya, Kim Seung-mo) revealed why, as a multinational group, they sing the Korean-style song ‘God’.
At a showcase held on the afternoon of the 8th at Sky Art Hall Nodeulseom Live House in Yongsan-gu, Seoul to mark the release of the fourth mini-album ‘Definition’ (Definition), when asked why a multinational group chose a Korean-style song, he said, “There are four foreign members in our team. A Korean-style song may have felt awkward for us, but as soon as we received this track we started practicing Korean traditional dance, so please recognize that effort.”
He added, “Also, to express this song, we watched historical dramas together and tried to capture the atmosphere of that time and how to move the body, and incorporate that into our choreography.”
He continued, “When I first heard the song, it felt fresh, so I wanted to try expressing it on stage with this track at least once,” expressing affection for the title track.
Kim Seung-mo, who also attended, added, “Because we are a multinational group, we share various cultures within the team and that has a positive influence,” and, “As multinational members exchange cultures and attempt Korean-style music, I think we can reach the public with a fresh feeling.”
‘Definition’ is an album that captures AMPERS&ONE looking back on the present of the group and defining the direction to move forward. The title track ‘God’ features ethnic synth sounds over a trap beat and also ambiguously refers to the traditional Korean ‘gat’. Oriental-tinged sounds meet the dance genre to create a distinctive sonic intersection. In addition to this, the album, which contains a total of six tracks, will be released at 6 p.m. today on online music sites nationwide.
