The series ‘Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’, starring Koo Kyo-hwan and Go Youn-jung, will convey the value of pausing in Gwanghwamun.
JTBC announced that, partnering with the ‘Gwanghwamun Spacing Out Contest’ now in its 12th year, this year’s edition branded ‘Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ (hereafter ‘Mojamussa’) will take place on the 14th.
The ‘Gwanghwamun Spacing Out’ contest is an event that proposes time spent doing nothing as a sport for modern people. This year it will proceed in collaboration with JTBC’s new weekend drama ‘Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ (directed by Cha Young-hoon, written by Park Hae-young).
The purpose of this event is to propose a collective pause to those who, as social beings, feel anxious about stopping alone. The company said the contest’s goal of briefly stopping to escape the compulsion to produce and consume aligns with the message the drama seeks to convey.
The venue, Gwanghwamun Yukjo Madang, is a symbolic space that is permitted mainly for state events. This place, which recently hosted a BTS performance, is among the locations with the heaviest foot traffic in Seoul. A pause in the middle of the busy city center is expected to raise a public-interest theme needed by modern people.
The contest will be conducted by selecting the citizen who does nothing for 90 minutes while maintaining the most tranquil heart rate. On site, there will also be an experience zone where visitors can preview the mood of the drama. The four areas are an entry zone where one pulverizes one’s worthlessness and receives an admission ticket, a photo zone that recreates protagonist Hwang Dong-man’s room, a worthlessness exchange booth that offers merchandise, and a spacing-out lounge where the teaser video is screened.
The event will be visited in person by the drama’s lead actors, including Go Youn-jung and Koo Kyo-hwan. They plan to take part in the contest or look around the exhibition spaces to experience “the aesthetics of worthlessness”.
The drama ‘Mojamussa’ deals with a person’s search for peace who, unable to achieve results among those around them, is tormented by envy and jealousy. It will depict “a human search for peace by someone driven mad by envy and jealousy because, among brilliant friends, they alone cannot make progress”. Written by Park Hae-young and directed by Cha Young-hoon, it will premiere at 10:40 p.m. on the 18th.
