Dreamus Company (060570, CEO Lee Ki-young), which operates the music platform FLO(FLO), said that an analysis of popular tracks for spring shows a multi-layered music consumption trend in which various spring season songs are rising simultaneously.
Unlike the past, when a specific song dominated the chart for an extended period, this year new releases, established season songs, and generation-specific favorites are coexisting on the chart. With distinctly spring weather, increased outdoor activities, and the full-fledged wedding season overlapping, music consumption that reflects the seasonal mood has expanded.
Do Kyung-soo ‘Popcorn’ reached No. 1 on the chart about two years after its release, and it has been cited as a representative example of a cherry blossom chart resurgence. Riding word of mouth as a ‘wedding groom processional’ thanks to its lively vibe, the track saw a surge in listening centered on wedding venues. It entered the top 10 at 11:00 on April 3 and rose to the top of the chart at 23:00 on the 6th.
The influence of traditional spring season songs is also continuing. Busker Busker ‘Cherry Blossom Ending’ rebounded to as high as 16th on the FLO chart last weekend, when cherry blossoms were at their peak, showcasing its staying power. IU ‘Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms’ likewise re-entered the chart on the 2nd and is maintaining steady demand.
New contenders centered on listeners in their teens and twenties are also standing out. The band Lucy ‘Blooming’ and Bolbbalgan Sachungi ‘Only Me, Spring’ entered the FLO 1020 chart last weekend and then rapidly climbed into the top 50, winning strong support from younger users.
According to FLO data, this year spring season music consumption has shifted away from a focus on specific songs to a structure in which resurgent tracks, traditional season songs, and generation-specific hits are consumed simultaneously. A FLO representative explained, “Users are increasingly choosing and listening to a variety of spring season songs depending on the situation and mood,” adding, “This multi-layered listening pattern that reflects the season is expected to continue for the time being.”
