The weekend miniseries ‘Doctor Shin’ (written by Phoebe (Im Seong-han)/directed by Lee Seung-hoon/produced by TME Group, Scene&Studio) is a medical thriller about a genius doctor who challenges the realm of the divine and a woman whose brain is damaged overnight, causing her soul to fade. Built around the theme of ‘brain change’, ‘Doctor Shin’ unfolds the signature, overwhelming shock narrative of writer Phoebe and has seized peak buzz: it ranked in the Top 2 for two consecutive weeks in the drama TV-OTT search response for Week 4 of March in the buzz index announced by K-content analytics firm Good Data Corporation, while cast-related search keywords such as Jung Yi-chan, Baek Se-ra, Ahn Woo-yeon, and Joo Se-bin dominated the upper ranks.
In Episode 8, Shin Ju-shin (played by Jung Yi-chan) engaged in a fierce confrontation when Momo (played by Baek Se-ra), whose brain had been replaced with that of Kim Jin-joo (played by Cheon Young-min), rebelled without revealing a miscarriage. Meanwhile, Ha Yong-jung (played by Ahn Woo-yeon), who had liked Momo (Kim Jin-joo brain), drew attention as he was shocked by the news that Momo was pregnant.
In this connection, a ‘thrilling, heart-stopping blues time’ moment has been captured, with Baek Se-ra and Ahn Woo-yeon so close that you could feel their breathing, heightening the tension. In the scene, under dreamy lighting, Ha Yong-jung sings while holding a microphone, as Momo, who carries the brain of Kim Jin-joo, gazes at Ha Yong-jung. Then Momo (Kim Jin-joo brain) suddenly rises from her seat and approaches Ha Yong-jung, and the two keep their eyes locked on each other. With arms around shoulders and waists, the pair create a subtle flutter, raising curiosity over whether there will be rapid progress between Momo (Kim Jin-joo brain) and Ha Yong-jung and what kind of aftershocks their fate will unleash.
Baek Se-ra and Ahn Woo-yeon heightened the on-site heat by perfectly tracing the precarious emotional line of Momo and Ha Yong-jung in the ‘super-close two-shot’ scene. Baek Se-ra amplified the dramatic tension by embodying Momo, who carries Kim Jin-joo brain and kicks off full-on provocation toward Ha Yong-jung, through varied gestures and poses. Ahn Woo-yeon expressed, with a deep gaze, the uncontrollable amplitude of Ha Yong-jung's emotions as he pours affection on Momo without reason or condition, releasing his yearning heart.
The production team stated, “In the full-fledged second act of ‘Doctor Shin’, a major reversal will occur that completely overturns the relationships of key characters including Momo and Ha Yong-jung,” adding, “Please look forward to Episode 9 of ‘Doctor Shin’, where a mad dash that runs without brakes will rage.”
Episode 9 of the weekend miniseries ‘Doctor Shin’ will be released simultaneously on TV Chosun and OTT Coupang Play at 10:30 p.m. on the 11th.
