On ‘Pyeonstorang’, Kim Kang-woo won the envy of all sisters-in-law.

On the April 10 broadcast of KBS2 ‘New Release Pyeonstorang’ (hereinafter ‘Pyeonstorang’), Kim Kang-woo revealed side dishes full of devotion for his in-laws, displaying the demeanor befitting a ‘national brother-in-law’. In particular, his thoughtful consideration for his family, including his youngest sister-in-law, actor Han Hye-jin, combined with his cooking skills to create a heartwarming atmosphere.

Playing to his image as a ‘bean maniac’, Kim set out to make special side dishes using Korean beans. He first attempted soy-braised beans using white soybeans, drawing attention by stir-frying unsoaked beans right away and then adding water to cook them through. He then added seasoning and simmered them down to complete soy-braised beans with a nutty yet deep flavor, eliciting admiration with a simple but distinctive recipe.

Next, Kim began a sausage and vegetable stir-fry. Using octopus-shaped sausages and a variety of vegetables, he cut the richness with gochugaru and oyster sauce, then added milk and ketchup to reinterpret it in a rose style, completing ‘rose so-ya’. The recipe Kim Kang-woo presented, which added a twist to a familiar dish, delivered both visual fun and eating pleasure.

The tofu dishes also drew attention. Kim microwaved tofu to remove moisture, then presented braised tofu that enhanced the flavor profile of mapo tofu by using doenjang and doubanjiang. Not stopping there, he even completed ‘tofu tanghulu’ by frying tofu and coating it with a sauce based on starch syrup and sugar, delivering a dessert-like dish with a crisp exterior and tender interior that surprised once again.

Above all, Kim Kang-woo’s true value shone through in his sincerity toward family. Han Hye-jin expressed her gratitude, saying, “I ate a lot of the side dishes my brother-in-law made.” The MCs also repeatedly exclaimed, “We have never seen a brother-in-law like this.” Meanwhile, through his wife came the message, “My husband treats everyone so well that my family feels intimidated,” and Kim Kang-woo also revealed his disappointment, saying, “When I go, everyone scatters.” However, sister-in-law Han Hye-jin melted Kim’s heart by saying, “We did that to let brother-in-law rest.”

With not only cooking skills but also warm sincerity toward his family, the national brother-in-law Kim Kang-woo captured the hearts of everyone. In every episode, he draws empathy and support from viewers with distinctive recipes and a genuine presence.
