The paternity-test couple, a first-ever mid-camp exit disaster
The husband stayed alone to prove his innocence regarding the ‘sister-in-law affair’

On JTBC’s ‘Divorce Deliberation Camp’, the ‘paternity-test couple’ ultimately failed to find a clue to repair their relationship and decided to go their separate ways. As the wife marked the first mid-camp withdrawal in the program’s history, putting a period to their tie as a couple, the husband remained at the camp alone and proved his innocence regarding the fatal suspicions surrounding him through psychophysiological testing.
Episode 83, aired on the 16th, showed the final moments of the paternity-test couple, who could not narrow the gap in their conflict even after an in-depth domestic investigation. Realizing that their feelings only grew more distant the more they talked, the husband hinted it would be difficult to continue the relationship, saying, “I don’t think so. It seems it would be hard for both of us.” The wife also responded coldly, “I think so too. Go,” giving up on improving the relationship.
In an interview with the production team, the wife confided, “Earlier, after meeting Lee Ho-seon, I did feel my heart ease,” but added, “I have no belief that my husband will change through counseling. Even in that process, I felt he was the same.” She continued, “Even now, when we talk, it’s the same. Because of the care the production team showed, I tried to stay as much as possible, but it feels like we’ve come too far for that,” expressing her intention to leave.

Before leaving, the wife visited her husband’s room, handed him vitamins, and delivered a calm final farewell: “If you’re going to make it until tomorrow, you have to endure. I’m going. Do well.” The husband moved her luggage to the car, and after the car carrying the wife departed, he expressed his complicated feelings: “If we keep meeting, it seems it would become torment, not love. I think it would be better for both of us to wrap this up cleanly. It’s very sad, but it seems to be the reality.” Even so, he revealed the feelings he could not let go of, saying, “I still have feelings. But it seems there are things you can’t do with feelings alone.”
Afterward, at the psychophysiological testing site ahead of the final adjustment, the husband drew attention by appearing alone without his wife. MC Seo Jang-hoon explained, “I hear the paternity-test couple talked yesterday and decided to bring their tie as a couple to a close. There has never been such a case; this is the first time.” When he then asked the husband, “Your wife has left, so why are you here?”, the husband showed resolve: “I stayed because I’m curious about the psychophysiological test results. I want to prove my innocence.”
The test proceeded with questions about the core of the couple’s conflict: the suspicion of an ‘inappropriate relationship with the sister-in-law’. When the polygraph examiner asked, “Have you ever slept with your younger brother’s wife, your sister-in-law?”, the husband answered firmly, “No,” and the result was ‘truth’. To the question, “Is your sister-in-law more important than your wife of seven years?”, he again answered, “No,” which was also judged ‘truth’.
Addressing the wife, who would be watching via video, Seo Jang-hoon emphasized, “It seems certainty formed as incongruous suspicions were combined. The test result is the truth.” The husband also repeatedly stressed his position, saying, “I can live without seeing my sister-in-law. If my feelings for my wife are 100, my sister-in-law is 0,” and, after a hard-fought struggle, succeeded in proving his innocence.
Having completed all the tests and shaken off the suspicions, the husband quietly left the camp, and the paternity-test couple’s tumultuous story concluded by establishing the truth despite ending in rupture.
