The cast of ‘Scarecrow’ revealed sincerity and confidence in the project.
On the 17th, the team behind ENA’s new MondayTuesday drama ‘Scarecrow’, scheduled to air its first episode at 10 p.m. on the 20th, unveiled viewing highlights shared directly by the actors.
‘Scarecrow’ depicts a pursuit of truth between two men bound by ill fate and hatred, moving back and forth across 30 years from 1988 to 2019. In particular, attention is focused on the fact that it is inspired by a real serial murder case that, after the true culprit was identified 33 years later, once again drew public interest.
Director Park Jun-woo, who previously teamed up on ‘Taxi Driver’, is at the helm, with writer Lee Ji-hyun penning the script. Adding to the trust is the ensemble of actors, including Park Hae-soo, Lee Hee-jun, and Kwak Sun-young, as well as Song Geon-hee, Seo Ji-hye, Jung Moon-sung, Baek Hyun-jin, and Yoo Seung-mok.
Park Hae-soo plays ace detective Kang Tae-joo, endowed with tenacious powers of observation and sharp intuition. After being reassigned from Seoul to his hometown of Gangsung, he pursues the real culprit behind a serial murder case and, upon crossing paths with the prosecutor in charge, Cha Si-young (Lee Hee-jun), confronts a dilemma.
Park Hae-soo said, “As everyone knows, it is a deep and sad story. It was also brutal and frightening. As with any project, the choice was difficult, but that made our focus on set exceptional, and everyone was of one mind,” and added, “You will be able to fully savor the power of the work and the actors’ performances. It is a drama rich in thrills, fun, and things to ponder, so I hope you will watch to the end,” pointing out key viewing highlights.
Lee Hee-jun leads the investigation into the Gangsung serial murder case that is drawing public attention, seeking to use it as a springboard to enter politics. Outwardly he seems at ease, but within he is a complex figure who conceals deprivation and anxiety.
Lee Hee-jun emphasized, “Up to the mid-early episodes, it may appear to unfold like a buddy-genre piece, but it distinguishes itself by delving deeply into the harrowing faces of human beings closely tied to reality,” and said, “Focusing on the relationship and emotional flow between Kang Tae-joo and Cha Si-young, please watch how the story and the characters’ transformations deepen over time.”
Kwak Sun-young appears as ‘Seo Ji-won’, a Gangsung Daily reporter and Kang Tae-joo’s former classmate, who, with a firm sense of duty to record and convey the truth of the case and upright convictions, keeps a close eye on the police and serves as a sentinel.
Kwak Sun-young appealed to viewers, “Within a space that perfectly recreates ‘those days’, the story unfolds with great momentum. Many will hold their breath, empathize, and become immersed,” and continued, “I hope you will stay with us through the beginnings and endings of the people within the confines of that era and that case.”
